Impressions Abloom, Simply Said, Birthday Card, Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have a birthday card to share with you that I found on Pinterest. I did change the genre and texture though. You can see the original card by clicking here. The link will open a new window. Please read on to see how I put this card together.

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock. It opens on the right and the fold is on the left. I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Balmy Blue card stock for the layer.

I cut a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Basic White card stock for the top layer. I cut the oval out using the die from the "Impressions Abloom" bundle. I textured it using the "Damask Design" embossing folder.  The "Impressions Abloom" bundle has two ovals. This one was the plain one. The second oval was used too. I cut it out of a separate piece of Basic White card stock. You end up with an oval ring using the second die. I glued that oval ring over the opening on the embossed layer. It was not very fun but I managed to get it on. I think next time I do the two ovals thing I will use a double sided sticky sheet on the white card stock. The glue was a mess. Or I may glue it on after I get the Designer Series Paper (DSP) on the back of the white card stock.

Speaking of the DSP, it's from the "Subtles" 6" x 6" stack. I used the Balmy Blue one. I loved the look of that side of the paper. It had a "sky" look to it. It also has a "winter" look to it too. I may have to get another stack for my holiday card making. But back to this card. I cut the DSP at 3-1/2" x 4-1/2".  I glued it to the back of the embossed Basic White piece. Then I glued that to the Balmy Blue layer. Then that was taped to the front of the card base.

The flowers were die cut using Basic White card stock and the centers of the flowers were cut from a scrap piece of Daffodil Delight card stock. The leaves and flower stems were cut next using Garden Green card stock. All of the dies are from the "Impressions Abloom" bundle. I cut two sets of leaves and the stem accommodated the two flowers. There's two stems in the set, one long one and one double one. I used the double one.

The words are from the "Simply Said" set and were stamped using black Memento ink. I cut them out using the die from the "Stylish Shapes" set. Dimensionals were added to the back and the piece was set aside.

A white Baker's Twine bow was tied.

Before assembling the card, using a blending brush and Daffodil Delight ink, I added some color to the center areas of the white flowers.

I glued the double stem in place inside the oval. I did have to trim the bottom off a bit first. Before gluing it down I did set it on top of the oval for placement and I laid the flowers in place so I could tell where I wanted the stem to go. Once the stem was glued in place I glued the leaves, which had to be trimmed on the bottom too. I removed the last leaf on both pieces.

Next came the flowers. I glued the left one in place and I added the right one with a Dimensional. I glued the flower centers in place. The set comes with two sets of flower centers, one large and one small. I think I should have used the smaller one. But it still looks goo.

The bow was added using a small glue dot and the words were set in place over the bow. And the card was done. Though I think I may add a brass butterfly to the sky. I forgot about it before taking the pic. But I'm sure you can imagine it there!

This was a pretty fun card to make. It was a learning experience with the oval frame piece but other than that I enjoyed making it and can see myself making more cards using the oval and the oval frame.

Thank you SO very much for taking your time to stop in and see today's birthday card,
Wanda
