Timeless Talk Matchbook Notes

These are called "Matchbook Notes" because the open like a matchbook.  The flap fit just behind that piece you see with the 4 pearls!

You can do this with any scratch pad you have sitting around.  Just take a piece of card stock and scrap it around scrap copier paper to see if the 11" part is long enough.  Then you cut it to fit the width of the scratch pad.

Glue the back of the scratch pad to the cardstock.  I also glued the little front flap to the  first piece of paper in the scratch pad.  The glued end of the scratch pad is at the bottom and I did glue that to the cardstock too.

I found a scrap piece of the Patina Technique and I thought it would work well with this.  It's always fun to use some of your scrap findings!!

I thought the phone image from the "Timeless Talk" set would be perfect for a scratch pad notebook.  And of course the "Hello there" was a perfect fit too!

I embellished the phone with a lot of tiny pearls.  One in the center of the dial and tiny ones all around it, plus a few up above the dial too!  It looks SO much better in person!

I will probably gift it.  I will wrap it up in cello wrap and set it aside until it's needed!

Recipe Page

I have a 6" x 6" album full of recipe pages like this.  It all started in one of Terri's Stamp Share swaps.  It was fun to get a bunch of recipes to add to the album.  And as time went on I would make one up to add to it as well.  It's such a colorful book of fun recipes.

This is one of the recipes I like to make when it's cold outside and trust me, it's 12 degrees F here right now and downstairs in my workroom it's VERY chilly!

And there is really nothing like a hearty meal on a cold night. One thing great about this recipe is that it is not only hearty but it's very low fat and low calorie.

These pages are very easy to make.  For mine, I had taken a photo of the dinner and then imported it into my word processing software.  I typed up the recipe a printed it all out at once.  Then I stamped over the recipe and sponged the edges.  Here I used Cajun Craze for my color.  The background piece is cut 6" x 6" and the recipe part is cut 5-3/4" x 5-3/4" and that is all there is to it!!

If you'd like to make this hearty dish, here's the recipe:

2 jars of Heinz fat-free gravy mix (the dry gravy mix will work too but you need 24 ounces total)
1 bag of frozen vegetables (I usually use peas and carrots)
Diced Chicken or Turkey (Canned chicken will work too, it's easier and quicker)
1/8t. celery salt
1/8t. pepper
pinch of sage, crumbled (optional)
Pour the gravy in a sauce pan and heat it up, add the chicken, celery salt and pepper.  Stir in the vegetables and just before you serve it, stir in the sage.  You can serve it over rice, noodles, toast or have it just as it is.  It can also be used as a pot pie or pierogi filling.  YUM!!!

So take some of your favorite recipes and make some great pages for an album.  I am thinking of putting some of our son's favorite recipes together in an album and giving it to his new wife. Not that he had an old one!!! LOL  They are newlyweds!!!

Here's a few more recipe pages I have on my blog.  Just click here.

Happy stamping and happy cooking!!!

6" x 6" Recipe Page

I haven't made a recipe page in a long time. And I haven't played with this "Under the Stars" set in a very long time. It's one of those sets I ask myself "why did I buy this?" And I still have no answer. I don't recall at the time why I bought it. Maybe it was for this recipe card!!! Probably not since I just found this recipe in a bunch of "stuff" I had downloaded in 2006. SO since this stamp wasn't out yet I would have to say no, that was not why I bought this set!

And honestly here, I have not made this recipe to see if the stuff even works. When I saw it in my stash of downloads I immediately thought of the "Under the Stars" set and right then and there I knew I would be able to finally use that set!

I wished I would have made the font a bit smaller so I could have added more mosquitoes and colored them in like I did on the bottom.

It doesn't really matter to me if this recipe works or not. I just like the way I was able to use it for this page. It's a fun page for the recipe book! But I may just give the recipe a try. I'm sure I have all of these ingredients in my cupboard! NOT!!!

Anyway, I thought it was cute!

SO Much Cake. SO Little Time!

Saying goodbye to the Stampin' Up! "Eat Cake" set. I have LOVED playing with this set, haven't I Sue? I had borrowed hers enough that I had finally broke down and bought my own. I will probably keep this set for a while longer just because I still like it.

I used this set in the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge today. I wanted to do this challenge but this card wasn't what I had in mind when I took this set out. Once I figured out the size of the area I was going to be working with it dawned on me that I didn't have the space I thought I would. This layout is a bit deceiving. But it worked, just in a smaller scale. I do wish I would have changed a couple of things. Making the layer around the cake 1/8" larger and stamping the candles in a darker color.

In person it looks a lot different. Anyone who receives it will know it's a birthday card!! Even without the words I wanted to originally add to it!!

It's bright and cheery, that's for sure!!! LOL

In addition to the "Eat Cake" set I used the little cupcake from one of my favorite tiny sets "ABC Images." SO many things you can do with that set!

Strawberry Fruit Dip 6 x 6 Recipe Page

I have a wonderful 6" x 6" album going with recipe pages in it. These pages are SO fun and such a cute way to display some of your favorite recipes.

I saw this recipe on Melissa's blog, Simply Pink. Check out her blog, she has some wonderful cards and other items there as well.

I copied the recipe and did my layout a little different. I have SO many fruit recipes that I could use this stamp set for a month and still have recipes left. And guess what? Stampin' Up! has extended the mini catalog for another month!!! SO I just may be doing more fruit recipe pages!!!

Last month I had gotten the "Viola to Go" set so I can use that for some pages too. Not all of my recipes involve fruit!!! LOL

If you're going to start making an album you will want to type up your recipe on your word processor and print it out. I like to try to keep my recipe in a 4-1/2" to 4-3/4" by 4-1/2" to 4-3/4" square. You want to have room to stamp, color or add embellishments or even all of the above!!! LOL I usually like to stamp some soft image on the background but this page I didn't. I just left it at the sponging. I don't think adding an image in the background was going to do much for this page since the red card stock was going to be drawing your attention. After you print out a few copies and measuring to get the words where you want them then print it out on your background card stock. Here I used Whisper White. I like to keep a copier paper printed one cut at 5-3/4" x 5-3/4" on hand for lining up my next recipe. I don't like to measure things if I don't have to!!! I just set the copier paper copy on the card stock printed one and lightly add some pencil lines for cutting. If I after working with it and adding layers I find I need to trim it back more I still have that option, that is why I only cut 1/4" off to begin with. I never just cut it 6" x 6" because I want to (and need to) add layers.

Ok, once you get your piece cut and know what you want on it just have fun adding your items. I don't tape anything in place until I have all the pieces assembled and sitting on the page. I sometimes move things around a few times before I find them pleasing to my eye. Then I tape it all up and put it in the 6" x 6" album sleeves. Now it's protected forever and is ready for your VERY fun and VERY cool recipe album!!!

Aren't they a fun thing to have???

Six by Six It!

I'm posting something totally different here for a change. I was trying to look back on previous posts to see if I have ever put any 6" x 6" recipe cards on here. Then it dawned on me to look at the labels on the right side of the blog. DUH!!! I have only one other recipe card on here. Such a shame, they're SO fun. And the BEST part is I know where to find my favorite recipes!! Here's the link to the one lonely other recipe card. It's for Monster Cookies and they are REALLY good too. I usually just make them at Christmas time now!

I have a wonderful recipe for Mandarin Orange cake and I was trying to clean off my worktable and ran across the "Tart & Tangy" stamp set and realized I have not played with the orange much. Well, then this cake recipe came to mind and the next thing you know I'm making a 6" x 6" recipe card for my album. These are SO much fun to make as a swap item. That is how my album got started, at one of Terri's Stamp Shares and I've loved the whole concept since!!!

What is fun with this is summer family picnics. Everyone brings their favorite dishes to share and no one brings the recipe. Well, this year ask everyone to either bring you their recipe or have them email it to you. I would prefer the email part so you don't have to type it, just cut and paste!! I'm SO lazy can you tell? LOL And then make the pages and put the album together for the family for Christmas or for the next year's reunion. Once people get their hands on these they want more!

It's such a fun way to display your favorite recipes. Plus they are in protective sleeves ( the 6" x 6" ones are available through Stampin' Up!) and once in those sleeves they are pretty protected. Just a word of warning here. Try not to make your page interactive. Meaning, don't make a pocket and place a recipe card in it. That would mean you'd have to go into the sleeve to get it out to use it or to even read it. Try to keep the entire recipe on one level/layer so you just read it through the sleeve. It will help keep the recipe nice and it's easier to access it, especially with sticky hands!!!

Have fun with these! There's TONS of fun stamps that could be associated with themes or food items in your recipe. And there's always the card stock and decorative papers that will do that too!

If you click on the photo you can see the recipe better in the event that you'd like to make this wonderful cake!!!

Scary Monster!

Switching gears a little here. I mostly do cards. But when I think about it, there's probably as many cards on here as there are little gift items, etc. But I can say I don't do a lot of scrapbook pages and that is something I am going to be challenging myself to do. I need to keep a good balance of stamp crafting, cards and scrapbook pages!!!

This set is SO adorable but not as cute as the "Best Fiends" set was. But this will still do for this 6 x 6 recipe swap card. I LOVE making these for my recipe book. I have been collecting recipes since I was 16 (A VERY long time!) and I want to put my favorite recipes on these cards. It really dresses up a recipe card now doesn't it? These make great gifts too.

You set up your computer to print out your wording within a 5" x 5" space. You want to have some room on the sides for layers and sponging and just space to make it look even. I typed in my recipe and I printed out about 6 of them. I plan on keeping 4 so 6 is usually pretty close! I lose one or two with experimenting. And when I don't I have an extra for a gift for someone special!! Now once you set up your page, save it. This way you can just go in and make the changes for another recipe and do a "save as" for it and you've got another page saved. Though I usually just do a regular save since I REALLY don't want to make any more of the pages I've already done. They never turn out the same anyway. I just make the amount I want with the first run and that's it.

Once you print your recipe on card stock cut it to 5 3/4" x 5 3/4", enough room for the 6" x 6" piece of background layered card stock to go behind it. You don't need to do a layer but it does make the card look better. Stamp your images on the recipe and color them in as you like. For this one I used googly eyes on the spiders and Frankie. I glued them in place with Crystal Effects. I didn't want any glue to show. Once it dried and my layering was done I slipped it into the 6" x 6" scrapbook sleeve along with the other recipes! Eventually my book will be full of cute little recipe cards that are also fun to look at. And the bonus to doing this is that each page is in a plastic sleeve so there will be no sticky recipe cards!!!
