Gorgeous Posies, Ornate Borders, Anniversary, Wedding, Birthday Cards, 2020-2021 Stampin' Up! Catalog

Today's card was found on Pinterest. I simplified it even more.  I liked the original card but I needed a quick card because I had to have it done to sign and give today.  Nothing like waiting till the last minute.  You can see the original card here.

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Whisper White card stock.  This card opens on the right and the fold is on the left.

I took a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Basic Black card stock and I had affixed mine to a double sided sticky sheet.  I don't like gluing down those open areas.

I die cut the image from the "Ornate Borders" dies.  I also saw that you can die cut these borders and use them as stencils.  I'm going to have to give that a try sometime too.

I trimmed the top and left with my paper trimmer, up to the leaves. Then I had to fussy cut.  I cut around the leaves. I liked that look on the original card and I wanted to give it a try.  I didn't nail it but it's close!  Then I affixed the Basic Black piece to the front of the card.

I colored the leaves using both dark and light Old Olive Blends pens.  And the flowers were colored in using both light and dark Petal Pink Blends pens.

The words are from the "Gorgeous Posies" set. They were stamped using Mossy Meadow.  Why Mossy Meadow and not Old Olive you ask?  Because I need a remedial reading course.  LOL  I wasn't thinking when I grabbed the Mossy Meadow ink spot.  But it's okay, it's a dark green and looks just fine.  No regrets.

I like how the card turned out. It's simple enough yet there was enough fun things to do to make it feel like you actually worked on the card.  The only thing I would do different is to make the front piece on a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of card stock so I could tape it to the front of the card base.  The Blends ink bled through the card stock.  I'm sure the person getting this card (my sister) won't care but it really doesn't look very pretty. It's mostly the Old Olive that is coming through. But like I said, it's okay. And knowing this I will rethink cards before I start to color.

Thank you SO very much for taking the time to stop by today,

Swirly Bird, Bloomin' Love, Valentine's Day Card

See what happens when I leave the stamp sets out from the day before? I end up using them the next day!!  Since I didn't need anymore thank you cards (none that I can think of), I thought I would make a Valentine's Day card since it's only 6 or 7 weeks away.  I was in Wal-Mart yesterday and where all the Christmas stuff was is now filled with Valentine's Day stuff.  They don't take long to move to the next "holiday".

My card was fun to make, and easy too. The base is a folded half-sheet of Whisper White card stock.  On top of that is a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Pink Pirouette.  On top of that is a piece of Whisper White that I misted with some Pink Pirouette ink mixed with rubbing alcohol and a few drops from my Wink of Stella pen.  It gave it a nice pink shimmer.

I die cut the swirl using Whisper White card stock. I also cut 2 large and 2 small flowers from the "Bloomin' Love" bundle dies.  I cut 2 large and 2 small flowers using Pink Pirouette card stock.  And I cut 2 large and 2 small flowers using the Dazzling Diamonds glitter paper.  I set the flowers in place using small glue dots.  I added a pearl to the centers of the flowers. I added them to hid the glue dots that showed through to the center of the flowers.  I added small Dimensionals and a couple of Dimensional pieces to the back of the swirl.

The words are from the "Bloomin' Love" set and I stamped them using Basic Gray ink.  I thought that Black would be too dark and the Smoky Slate was way too light.  I think it's the perfect tone for the card.  And that was it.  Just layer all the pieces and you're done!

This would also make a great wedding or anniversary card too!

A Swirly Bird and Swirly Thinlits Anniversary Card

I found this fun card while surfing the net.  I thought it was SO pretty and I just had to have a copy of it!!  I did change it a little but I like them both. The original card was made by Ingrid at Stamp-ing.  You can see her card here.

I thought it was a lot of work. There is a lot of stamping and a lot of die cutting.  The background on the larger flowers was fussy cut. Not one of my favorite things to do anymore.

After they were fussy cut I cut the center  pieces, colored them with the "Wink of Stella" and set them in place with white glue.  The colors of those flowers are Daffodil Delight, Soft Sky and Blush Blossom.

Next I stamped and die cut the other flowers and leaves.  The smallest flowers are stamped using Daffodil Delight and the other little larger flowers were stamped using Rose Red. The leaves were stamped using Pear Pizzazz and the veins in the leaves were stamped using Wild Wasabi.

The words are from the "Teeny Tiny Wishes" set. And the "Falling Snow" embossing folder was used for the top layer background.  For the base of the card I used Soft Sky ink and the larger flower image.

All the flowers were set in place using Dimensionals.  Lots of Dimensionals are used on this card! One all the flowers were added then some tiny pearls were set in the centers of each.

This card was easy enough to do but it did take a little while to make.  I would probably make another one because I do like how it looks.

World of Dreams General Card

I saw this fun layout by Sandi on Pinterest.  There was no link attached to the card and the photo didn't have a link with it.  I thought it was such a pretty card.  I didn't want to add the wording because I wasn't sure what I wanted to use the card for.  In leaving it blank I can use it for quite a number of occasions.  I also changed the colors. I wanted to make more of a fall looking card.

The flowery part is from the "World of Dreams" set and the butterfly is from the "Pappillon Potpourri" set.  I stamped the whole flower image using Wild Wasabi.  I took my blender pen and removed the ink from the flower part.  Then I took the Mossy Meadow ink and touched the ink pad lightly to the greens.  Next I took the Tangelo Twist marker and colored in the flowers.

The butterfly was stamped using the black Memento ink pad and colored in with the Tangelo Twist and Crumb Cake markers.  I set the butterfly in place using Dimensionals.

The side panel was embossed using the Beautifully Baroque folder.  I cut the piece in half on the short side and glued it in place.  I don't have a lot of luck with the tape holding and I think it's a waste to use the Sticky Strip to hold it down.  I added a ribbon down the middle to hide the seam.

I layered the piece on a piece of Tangelo Twist card stock and that was set in place on top of a piece of white card stock as the base.  And that was it. Pretty and fun too!!!

A Beautiful Wings Anniversary

I still had the gold foil paper out (I left it out - I'm one to NOT put things away when I'm done, hence the mess in my workroom most of the time!).

I used the "Beautiful Wings" die. I like how the detail shows up so much more on the foil paper than it does on regular card stock.

I used the gold Washi tape and then just added the butterflies.  I set them in place using Dimensionals.

I used the "Teeny Tiny Wishes" set for the words.

This was a very quick card to make and I am now have the anniversary card I need for this month!

Golden Anniversary Card

Today I have a very pretty Golden Anniversary card to share with you.  My friend Sandi made this card.  The paper she used was some type of gold vellum.  It was absolutely stunning!  You did a great job on this card Sandi and thank you for letting me share it with everyone.

I think you could use the brushed gold card stock to repeat this card.  I am going to have to give it a try since I haven't a clue as to where to get the gold vellum!

The images were heat embossed so it also gives the card some texture too!

Stop back tomorrow.  I will have a fun and inexpensive Valentine's Day gift project!  Oh and it's also easy to make too!  You know you love that!!! LOL

Aviary Fun Fold Friday Card

This card is called a "Center Step" fold.  I've seen these around the net for a while now but never tried one.  It looked like it was too much trouble to do.  It had a "complicated" look to it.  It was actually not that bad to make.

You can find the step by step instructions for this fun fold at Split Coast Stampers.

The instructions have you cut the lines in on each side 1" deep.  It says to flip the card and repeat for the other side.  The wording probably should have read "turn" the card over.  What you will be doing is cutting into the card stock one inch from the outer edge and you need to repeat that same cut on the other side of the card.  It took me a while to figure out what they were saying there.  The photos of it weren't very clear on exactly what to do.  So to save you from any confusion I wanted to tell you how to do the cut.  Oh and be sure NOT to score inside that cut area except for the one score that is in the middle of the card stock.  My first one (on practice paper) I had scored all the way across the bottom when I was only suppose to score one inch in and stop when I got to the cut line.  I was just in such a hurry to get the scoring done that I wasn't paying attention to the instructions.

Once the scoring is done then you fold the score lines.  And finally you can decorate as you wish.

I love using the ribbon punch but I don't like sticking it in place.  One of the best things I bought that helps with this is the Xyron machine.  It puts a sticky back on your card stock so you can punch things out and they become a sticker!!!  I just punched out the ribbons and took the protective backing off and stuck them in place.  SO easy and clean too! I LOVE my Xyron machine!

This was actually a fun card to make and I can see myself making more of these!

Just Believe Anniversary Card

I almost forgot that I needed an anniversary card this month.  I can't forget my sister's anniversary!!

I wasn't sure where I was going with this image.  I just loved the Marina Mist with Wild Wasabi and after I got the image colored in with markers (Direct to Rubber technique), the rest was super easy!

I added a couple of pieces of card stock behind the image.  A piece of Marina Mist and a piece of Wild Wasabi.  These were cut 1/4" smaller than the image piece.  I set them in place behind the image piece and I liked what I saw.

Then I took the Whisper White card stock and used the Dotted Swiss embossing folder and when it was done I sponged the edges with Marina Mist.  I also used Marina mist on the edges of the stamped image and on the word circle.

The words were done on the computer and punched out.  They were layered on top of a piece of Wild Wasabi and then laid on top of a scalloped piece of Marina Mist. It was set in place using Dimensionals.

The ribbon was tied onto the Whisper White piece before it was set in place.

I had fun making this card.  I just loved it when things flow along so smoothly.  I'm sure she will like this card!  Now to get it out in the mail on time!  It would be nice if I were on time with more cards!!! I've been so bad about setting the cards on the counter and not getting them addressed and sent off on time. The sad part of this is that the cards were made, it's not like I had to rush to make them!!  Something I need to work on!

Tomorrow I will be working on the Wednesday Sketch Challenge.  Hubby and I took a day off and headed up to Duluth.  We needed a little break and thought we could sneak away for a day and relax.  We have not been up there during tourist season in many years.  We usually go up in the fall with the "leafers."  Last fall we went up there WAY after leafer season too!  We went in November and it was VERY cold up there then and windy too!  But I don't care, I just like to get away.  Even if it's for one night.  SO because we left on Tuesday and came back on Wednesday I didn't have time to play with the sketch.  So I will be printing it out tonight and playing with it later.

Elements of Style Anniversary Card

I really like this "Elements of Style" stamp set. I thought I would play with some embossing powder with it. I originally was going to emboss it in black and do some coloring but I'll save that for another day.
This time I played with black card stock and silver embossing powder. The base of this card is Brushed Silver and so is the scalloped layer.
I stamped the image with VersaMark and then embossed it with the silver powder. I heat set it and taped it in place on the silver card stock. I used glue dots to set it in place. I find that the tape doesn't stick as well, it needs something a bit stickier. The Sticky Strip would work too but the glue dots were already sitting out! I also used them on the silver scallop piece. This card is not coming apart!!
The words were done on the computer and punched out. This is a great card if you need to make something quick that doesn't look like it was whipped together in no time at all!
I think it would be fun to try out the bleaching technique on the flowers and then color in some of them with vibrant colors. I'll have to give that a try sometime. Or you give it a try and show me your finished item!

Beautiful Wings Sympathy Card

I LOVE this Stampin' Up! "Beautiful Wings" embosslet! Embosslets are fun because you not only get the image punched out but it also embosses it at the same time! I love the bit of flourish on the large butterfly's wing.

I also used the "Elegant Boutique" embossing folder for the white background piece. I did have a little problem making this card. First I did the white background piece. Then I stamped the words on and got them not only crooked but too far over. Then I took a piece of card stock and stamped the words where I thought they should got. I got them on nice and straight. I got interrupted and had set the card stock down somewhere and lost it! I have since cleaned up my stamping stuff for this card and that piece has not shown up. I wonder what happened to it? It may be hiding with the earring I lost a few days ago, though I am suspecting it may be one of the cats who has something to do with that. I suppose I could blame the cat for this too, I know it would make me feel better about it!!! LOL Anyway, I stamped another one and then embossed it. After I removed it from the embossing folder I could see how crooked the wording was. UGH! But I decided to just leave it as it is. I was too anxious to see the butterflies on the card. I can't even begin to tell you how many colors of card stock I went through before I found a color I liked. Too bad the Almost Amethyst is retiring. But there will be better and more fun colors to play with next month!!
This is a very simple and versatile card to make. It will work for a number of occasions like birthdays, wedding, anniversary, thinking of you, friendship, get well and yes, even a sympathy card. And it's quick to make too (if you don't want your words perfectly straight!!!).

Bird on a Branch Anniversary Card

I saw this card on the Yahoo Demo's Only site. It was made by mickeyinpsj1956. There is no link I can set to show you her card but other than the color of ribbon and the words at the bottom it's exactly like her card. I thought it was a cute image and perfect for a needed anniversary card.

The technique used here is Brayering. You do need to do this on glossy card stock to get the full effect of the technique.

After I cut my glossy card stock I punched out a circle for the moon using a piece of sticky note paper. You want the circle to stick to the card stock but not forever. You can also use removable tape but I find it leaves little marks on my card stock when I am removing it. It's probably and ok thing for the moon but I don't care for that on my cards.

Ok, once you get the moon in place take your brayer and ink pad and cover the card stock. Make sure you go in all directions so you get an even color. I actually used two colors here. I first brayered on Pacific Point and then I sponged on Night of Navy. I started at the top with the Night of Navy and worked my way down. As I worked down the ink got less and less on the sponge and created that look of the top being darker than the bottom (because it is). I actually wanted it a bit darker and was going to pick up a little black and sponge it in but decided to leave it as it is. Take a paper towel and wipe the card stock off of any excess ink. Now you can remove the paper to reveal the moon. If you like the moon white you can leave it as it is. If you want to add a bit of color you can do it at any time. What I did was punched out another circle using a larger piece of scrap card stock. I placed it over the moon, lining up the edges and sponged in a bit of color. Simple as that.
I used black StazOn ink for the branch, birds and words.

I tied on the ribbon before I taped the card stock to the base of the card. The base of my card is Night of Navy. Isn't it a very pretty card? See why I just HAD to make one? I've been doing a bit of blog hopping lately and finding some GREAT treasures out there. I will be sharing my favorites as I find them. And of course giving credit where credit is due!

Simply Quick Cards

While visiting Dawn's website Do Stamping with Dawn I saw some cards she had done using the new in colors. SO once again I found myself gravitating back to the Rich Razzleberry paper. It's just SO darn pretty!!!

I didn't have the wheel she used so I dug out one I thought was appropriate and ran with it. My wheel wasn't a wide jumbo one, it was the regular size one so I wheeled the image on twice. I was shocked to see I actually got it on straight and without a wheel guide!!! And the first time too, no redoing it this time!!! See . . . . . shocker!!! LOL

There are ribbons to match the new in colors and I am thrilled about that too. I only ordered one spool in my pre-order. I would have loved to have gotten them all but my budget wouldn't allow me. I'm SO glad I picked this color since it seems that I am loving it the most!!!

I played with the new label punch too! I didn't have the larger one that is in the new Sizzix set. I wasn't going to buy that set but it has now gone on my wish list.

Now to do this card I just cut the card stock on the 8-1/2" side. I folded it in half. Then I cut a piece of white card stock and wheeled the image on (twice). Then I set the white piece on my card to see if I needed to trim it a bit and it looked fine so I taped it in place. I then tied the ribbon on. I just LOVE that cute ribbon!!! I punched out the label and the words were done using the new "Teeny Tiny Wishes" set and the Word Window punch. And seriously that is all there is to this card. I love the simplicity of it!!! And when they are simple, elegant and quick they are even more fun to make!!!

My Sister's Anniversary Card

Next week is my sister's wedding anniversary and I thought I should make her a card. I had a card in mind but it didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to. The rings look a bit silly to me. In my mind it had a very elegant look.

She likes the Brilliant Blue so I went with that card stock. The words were done on the computer. I didn't have a "Happy Anniversary" stamp that would fit in the oval. I printed out a full page of them so I can use them on future cards.

I'll put a nice gift certificate inside and it will distract from the outside of the card!!!! LOL

I used a Cuttlebug folder for the dry embossing on the white. I like the looks of this one for wedding and anniversary cards.

The more I looked at this card as I was typing up this post I decided to redo it. I just did NOT like those rings.

SO I went with Bravo Burgundy because I had wide ribbon to match. The only Brilliant Blue ribbon I had was the 1/4" stuff and that was just TOO thin.

Now you tell me, don't you like it much better without the rings??? That big bow seemed to be a bit more elegant looking than two gold tone rings.

DIVA Day Swaps!

I am SO fortunate to be in with a group of VERY talented gals!!! The swaps are always fun and the cards swapped are always FABULOUS!!!

The theme for this swap was to use the Stampin' Up! (of course) "Love You Much" set to make anything but a Valentine's Day card with it. It's to show that the set can be used far beyond Valentine's Day.

I like finding sets that I can use for more than just one occasion. Some sets are just for a specific holiday or event and some of those sets can be used as elements in another type of card.

Here the cards cover a lot of events.

One of them is a new baby card,

one is a friendship card,

one is a birthday card,

two are wedding cards

and two are anniversary cards.

See how many occasions this set can be used for??? Ya gotta LOVE that!!! And didn't I tell you these are FABULOUS cards??? We make full cards, not just card fronts so we can use them if we need to!!! On the inside we put a post it with our name on it so we know who made which card and with no permanent names on the cards. Such a smart idea, huh???

Ugh!!! I tried several times to aline these cards. I messed around with the Html and had no luck trying to straighten them out. SO after a half hour I just gave up. Sorry for the messy layout but a WYSIWYG (WhatYouSeeIsWhatYouGet) is not always "what you see is what you get!!!" Fortunately I don't put a lot of cards on one post so you won't see a mess like this very often!!! SO sorry about it.

Casing Ruth B!

Ruth B. is a fellow demonstrator that I met via my blog. She lives half way across the country from me. We have corresponded a bit via email and I am fortunate enough to be privy to some of her creations. I did ask her permission a LONG time ago to case some of her fabulous creations. This one here is such a pretty card that I just couldn't resist it. I have waited since January to find time to case this!

I have liked this card since the first time I saw it! It allows you to play with the flowers and beads from the "Pretties" kit.

I colored the flowers blue by using a sponge and the Bashful Blue ink pad and just rubbing it over the flowers. THe flowers pick up the color nicley.

This is basically a simple and quick card to make.

Measurements are pretty simple too. You just take a half sheet of Bashful Blue and fold it in half. The next and only layer is a piece of white card stock cut 5-1/4" x 4". Stamp the image on. Tie the ribbon aroudn the white piece only. Assemble the flowers adding a brad in the middle to hold them together. Add your choice of beads to the pin and attach it to the flower. I used a glue dot to hold the flower in place on the card.

Isn't is just a sweet looking card?
Thank you Ruth for allowing me to case and publish your card here!

Wishing a Friend a Happy Anniversary!

A friend of mine is celebrating her wedding anniversary today and guess what? Her card was just made tonight. It's going to be late. I don't think I've gotten too many cards out in the mail on time this year. I was SO horrible about that last year and I was hoping that bad habit would have gotten left behind but it spewed into the new year. *sighs* But there is still hope!! This was a quick and easy card to make. I took a piece of white card stock and cut it 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". I folded it in half. On top I affixed a piece of Rose Red card stock cut 5-1/2" x 4". On top of that is a piece of brushed silver card stock that was embossed with a Cuddlebug embossing folder. I used the retired Stampin' Up! set "All Year Cheer III." I couldn't find a current set with a larger "Happy Anniversary." I was going to use my computer to do the words but I really wanted the words embossed. I layered that on top of a piece of Rose Red cut 1/8" larger. Before I affixed the brushed silver piece I tied an organza ribbon around it and tied a bow on.
This is a very simple and quick card to make. I should make up a few of them to have on hand. I have a HUGE "should" list!!

Don't forget to enter the Blog Candy drawing.

Using What You Make!!!

Making something is one thing but using it is another. I LOVE to make things and some of these things need to be used in another project but I don't often get around to doing that. Well, as I'm getting older I'm realizing I need to use these things up!! SO I decided I'd start with my newest creation, the flower I made for the tutorial I posted yesterday!! Since the flower was a soft "girly" looking flower I decided I needed to make a very feminine card. Here is what I came up with. I do like this card. Many time when I make a card I am not 100% pleased with it. There is always something more than could be done to it. But this one I just wanted to keep simple and simple is what I got. It needs nothing added to it nor nothing taken away from it either! Now all it needs is an envelope and someone to send it to! The someone to send it to is a lot easier than finding an envelope!!! LOL This card can be used not only as a thank you card but for Birthdays, Mother's Day, Wedding, Anniversary or Get Well.

Thank You Motif

OK, last Baroque Motif card, I promise! But I really do like this set!

This card did take a little longer than the other ones because the illusion of a "reflection" was done using Baroque Burgundy ink. The words were added and then the White Craft ink was added on top of that. The card was set aside to dry. Craft ink takes a little longer to dry than the regular water-based inks. While the white was drying I stamped the flower and cut it out by hand. I didn't cut the dots around the flower image, I didn't feel they fit with the design on this card. I added a pink rhinestone brads from the new "Fire Circles" group. I affixed it to the card with a dimensional. The brad doesn't really match the burgundy card stock but once it was all assembled it blended in just fine. Those are very fun and pretty brads. And here's the shocker! I'm actually using the new stuff instead of hoarding it until it retires and then I can't use it in swaps! Imagine that, using your new stuff instead of keeping it around!!! Interesting concept! My favorite thing about this card is how the first image was stamped in Bravo Burgundy and it really makes the white just pop. And it REALLY does give the illusion of a shadow there! Just way too cool how that worked out!

Thanks So Much Motif

Ok, here I'm trying out a color combo I think actually worked!! I started out stamping my image on Very Vanilla card stock. I embossed it in black, doing the words at the same time. Then I cut a piece of Elegant Eggplant and taped it on behind that and put the two layers on top of a half sheet (folded) of the new Blue Bayou color. The colors blended together well and give a nice warm look to the card. The photo doesn't do the colors justice. And again, this was another quick and simple card but it doesn't give the appearance of being neither quick nor simple. Don't you just love that??? For those of you who read my blog frequently, can you tell I'm having sponging withdrawals?? LOL

Anniversary Motif

WOW, if you need an anniversary or wedding card in a hurry, this is the one to make! I can't tell you how quick this card was to make. And no sponging either!!! I used VersaMark on the Whisper White card stock and sprinkled it with silver embossing powder. Do the words at the same time. If you overheat embossing powder it no longer stays raised, it sort of melts into the card stock and especially the black will look like a big grease spot. Just slowly move your heat gun across the area and watch the powder melt as you go.

After the embossing I put it on a layer of Basic Black card stock and then adhered that to a half sheet of Whisper White card stock. SO quick and SO simple!
