Mixed Bunch Accordion Fold Technique

Last week I participated in a card swap.  I have not been in one of those in a very long time and it was super fun.  I will share my card with you in a few weeks.  Mine had a Christmas theme and personally I think it's a bit too early for Christmas things.  After Labor Day maybe!

The gals usually put their names on their swap cards but this one had no name.  So if you know who made this card please let me know so I can give them credit.

I love the versatility of this card too.  The bottom is open to add wording if you like or just send as is for several occasions.  I am fond of black and white cards too!

To do the accordion fold you just cut your 12" piece of card stock to 3/4" wide, to whatever width you want and score every 1/4".  Then you just fold like an accordion.  I glued my seams together, I didn't think the tape would hold well enough.  Glue dots to hold down the piece is very helpful too.  I set mine on glue dots and then I used hot glue to hold them more permanently.  And on my card I did not use 12" paper, I used the 11" card stock.  It was harder to fold but I got the same results.  I think if I had used decorative paper I would not have needed hot glue, a glue dot would have worked just fine.

The background paper here was done using one of the small "Mixed Bunch" images.  And the decorative paper is from the "Modern Medley" pack. I have the pack but haven't used it yet.  Don't ask what I'm waiting for!!! I'm not hoarding it, I just haven't been that creative to dig it out and play with it!

This is such a pretty card and I think I could see myself making some in the future.

My Friend

What a fun card this was.  And easy too!  I had a run across a piece of decorative paper in Rose Red.  I was going to toss it but I decided to make a card with it.  Rose Red was not a retired color and I have the ink and the pad so why not run with it? Just because the decorative paper is retired doesn't mean you can't use it.  If you only like to use current papers then you can just replace it with current stuff if you're going to copy this for a swap or Stamp-a-Stack. I do that kind of swapping all the time!

I saw this card at Artfelt Impressions and I knew I wanted to make it.  I believe the original card was done using Crumb Cake for the base of the card and those color tones were used.  I used the Rose Red because of the decorative paper that I found.  I also realized that I had not used this set either.  I had bought the download and used it digitally but never with rubber.  I like both but rubber does have more advantages.

This was a lot of fun and I love the layout.  I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.  Maybe I'll find more papers if I continue cleaning!!! It's amazing what you do find when you clean.

I was hoping to get done with my stamping stuff early tonight so I could play with some polymer clay.  I have been wanting to make this beautiful cabochon. I saw a pretty rock and I thought I could mix some clays together and make it.  I'll let you know how that goes if I get it done anytime soon.  There's always something that gets in the way.

Stamp-A-Stack Candidate!

This card would be perfect for a quick Stamp-A-Stack.  It was very simple to do and it didn't take much time at all.  This was not the card I had in mind when I started but I still like how it turned out.

Last Friday I was at a beading get together and one of the gals who had surgery on the 6th was there.  I had been meaning to send her a get well card and I was glad to see her there but yet felt bad that I had not sent her a card yet!  Part of the reason was I didn't have much time to work on a card and also, I lost her mailing address.  Today I found the address and today I made her a card.  And tomorrow it will go out in the mail.  So much for yesterdays brag session about being ahead of the game.  I think I need to learn to start using some of the cards in my stash.  There has got to be over 500 of them.  I'm sure I can part with one when I need it.  It's not like I don't make other cards to replace it!

So enough about that.  I will tell you what I used to make this card.  The base of the card is a half sheet of Pacific Point.  That's a color I don't use too much of but when I get it with the Marina Mist I am SO enthralled with it that it makes me want to make more cards with the two colors.  My Marina Mist layer is cut 4-1/8" x 5-3/8".  The white layer on top is dry embossed and measures 4" x 5-1/4".  The words came from the Delightful Dozen set and punched out using the 1-1/4" circle punch.  I think that punch is one that I use the most out of all of the punches I have.  Ok, that and the 1-3/8" and the round scallop punch.  They all go together to make the layered circles I have in the photo.  You can't do one without the other when making those layers!

And there you have it, a very sweet, clean and simple get well card.  It would also be great as a make n take or even a shoe box swap!  As long as you can find words to fit in that 1-1/4" circle you are good to go.  And speaking of going, I have to run.  I am working on a VERY fun project and I'm hoping I will be done with it this weekend.  It really isn't a long project but it is for me because I don't work on it for very long amounts of time.  I have too many other things going on so I pick away at it and then when I'm VERY close to being done I just sit down and finish it!  I'm hoping that day will be Saturday evening after I get back from teaching at the bead shop.  I need to show you my latest creation too.  I'll get that set up to photograph too.  My poor camera is having issues.  Well, it's not the camera, it's the lens.  There is a dot on the lens that appeared when we were up in Duluth.  I'm afraid the wind may have blown a piece of dust into the lens.  How else could it have gotten in there?  It's all sealed up.  Or so I thought it was.  The camera is a bit old but I'm going to hang onto it and just get it cleaned.  It's not like I'm going to be using it for my prize winning photos!!! LOL  I just want to take pictures of my "stuff" and I don't want dots in it.  I suppose I could photo shop the dots out but I don't want to spend the time doing that either.  I just want the lens cleaned and I'll be happy!

Hand-Penned Holidays

Can you believe it's December 1st already?  That means only 24 days to Christmas!  YIKES!!!  I have hardly begun my shopping.  So I'm changing subjects here and I'm going to talk about my card here!

I am SO loving this "Hand-Penned Holidays" set.  The font on this card is ever so lovely!  It just makes this card look so elegant.

This is a very simple card to make too.

I just embossed the bottom panel and then added the stamped top piece.  You can do it on one piece of card stock but I just found it easier this way because I had the embossed piece sitting on my worktable from a different project I was going to do.  The ribbon hides the seams so you can do whatever you want there.  And I also found this easier because if I made an error on the words I would have had to cut it off and add a piece of card stock anyway.  I just saved myself the time in having to correct the error.  And I actually didn't make an error on the words but that falls under one of the "Murphy's Law" things doesn't it?  Had I done it on one piece I probably would have made a mistake. That's usually how it works for me!!

Ok, back to the rest of this easy card.  I had a snowflake sitting in my stash so I just sponged the edges popped a Dimensional behind it and a rhinestone on top and stuck it in the bottom corner.

My card stock colors are Marina Mist (for the main part of the card), Pacific Point on top of it and Whisper White on top of that!  And that is it.  So quick and simple to do!

Lovely as a Tree Christmas Card

This "Lovely as a Tree" set has been around for a LONG time.  Over 10 years I think!  And it's still a fun set to play with!  I saw a card done like this at Kewl Stamps -n- More Designs by Julie.   I tend to gravitate to her site quite a bit. I think her taste is similar to mine and I find myself doing a CASE on her cards at least once a month (or more)!!

Her card is a bit different.  Ok, every card I pilfer off the net is "a bit different" because I usually change the color due to the products I don't have on hand.  Julie's card as made using brown ink and brow stripped ribbon.  I didn't have brown ribbon so I went with the black.  And her wording was different too.  She had "Merry Christmas" and I used the "Peace on Earth" from the "Four the Holidays" set.  I have used that set a lot and find the four word images in it are all ones I like to use!!!  Ya gotta LOVE that when you get a set that you can use all the images!  For me that doesn't happen very often. I get close and sometimes there is only one image in the set that drew me to it.  I try to use the other images, really I do!!! LOL

This was a fun card to make and quick too!  So if  you need to make a bunch of quick Christmas cards, this is the way to go!

This card would also be a good candidate for a Shoebox Swap or a Stamp a Stack.
