Decor Elements Wall Art

A while back when I was at my friend Denise's home she had this Decor Element on a frame on a wall in her bathroom. I just loved the way it looked. You could see the wall behind it. Well, when I bought my frame I wasn't thinking about the wall behind the glass. I got the words on and I held it up and I could see all the little staple prong things that hold the glass in place. UGH!! SO I thought I'd better come up with a Plan B. I dug out a bunch of decorative papers and started looking through them. I ended up using the stripped paper from the "Bride" package. I just LOVE that paper. And once I got it put in place and got it all together I liked it even more. That bride paper went so well with the wallpaper I have.

After I finished it I had to hang it up. SO I'm taking things off the walls trying to find a place for it in my workroom. It now has a home and I'm thrilled to have it on the wall.

The last time I did one of these rub-ons on glass I got it crooked. SO this time I used a permanent marker on the glass and marked the spots where the words are to line up. I also went online and found some free graph paper. I downloaded it, printed one out and taped that to the glass too so I had no excuse for crooked words!! They look pretty straight, don't they? And don't you just LOVE that background paper? It looks SO much better in person. If you click on the photo you can see a closer view of it and you'll see the decorative paper better too.

I saw the new Decor Elements and there is one I think I'm going to HAVE to get for my wall in the hallway. They are SO easy to put up and look FABULOUS on the wall. You never have to worry about them getting crooked once they are up like frames sometimes do. No edges to dust or polish either!! My kind of wall art!! They are fun and easy to put up too! And it also makes a wonderful gift too!

Star Guitar Wall Decor

I finally got this guitar up on the wall. I have had it for a while and had good intentions of getting it up on the wall but something always came up. It went in hubby's office/music room. So if I wasn't busy and had time to put it up hubby was not home or didn't have time to clean off that counter. I didn't want to touch his stuff so we just had to wait for the right time. So it took almost 6 months!!!

When I saw this guitar in the "Definitely Decorative" brochure I knew it would look great on his one wall. He liked the idea of it but he didn't like the heart in the middle of the guitar. I told him I would cut that heart out into a circle and it would look just FABULOUS on the wall. It came with 8 musical notes too. One is hidden behind the guitar hubby is building. He's been working on it a very long time and it's slowly coming along. Inside the guitar is a margarine dish of some type. I keep asking him how he's going to get that out of there and all he tells me is that it's up to the instructor to do that!!! I'm assuming he really means he has no idea how to get it out of there and the guy teaching the class is going to have to help him with that. The handle part of the guitar is out in the garage. I think he's working on the frets for it. Then he'll be gluing that part in place. Then a finish is put on and finally, I think, the rest is adding the hardware and strings. I'm guessing there, I really have no idea. I just know he's been working on it about as long as I've had the wall art. Now that I'm done he should get busy and get his done!
I had him come down and see his wall and he really liked it. I knew he would! I just LOVE that Definitely Decorative "stuff." I got the new book in the mail a week or so ago and I have picked out a few that I am adding to my wish list. I have a wall in mind for one of them right now but I have to wait for a bit to see how bad I REALLY want it or if I just want to want it!
I have two more items that I bought and I need to work on them. One of them is the kitty from the "All in the Family" and I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I only bought it because it was a kitty. LOL I'm such a sucker for cat things like that. I may just put it on the bedroom door we keep our old cat Millie in. Oh, don't feel bad for her. I take her out of there when I need to vacuum the room. I don't want her to be in there when I vacuum. I don't want her to be scared. She goes out in the living room and hubby brushes her there while I vacuum. Boo loves to go in there and spend the night. I call it "girls night out!" And K.C. likes to go in there but he goes in there because he thinks the food is different so he has to go eat Millie's food too! Silly cats. SO at times all three of them are in there but usually there is two in there at a time. I open the door and one (that is allowed to) will leave and the other one will go running in. Cats are the craziest people! Anyway, the door may be a good place for that Decor Element! I may just go put it on there when I'm done with this post!

Bless This House Frame Weekend Project

I was digging in a cupboard. If you've been to my workroom you know how many cupboards I have here! LOTS and those who stamp here know if they open one they have to clean it out! No one opens them here! LOL Smart gals, huh? Even I don't want to clean them out. But yesterday I was looking in one to see what all was stuffed in it (just on one shelf) and I ran across this frame I had purchased awhile back.

I set the frame on the floor and left it there for a whole day. I wasn't sure if I was going to put it back on that nice neat shelf or do something with it. The more I looked at it the more I knew I wanted to use the new Stampin' Up! "Good Neighbors" Sale-A-Bration set. This set has 3 houses to pick from. This house was the tallest and I felt it would fill the space I needed much better than the other two one level homes. You also have a choice of 3 different roofs too. The all seem to be about the same height. And there are three trees but one of them looks like a leaf so you could make that work in some projects. I played around with the trees and the one in the photo is the one I liked the best and it was the one that looked the best for what I was doing with it.

I did the words on the computer using the "EnglischeScht" Windows font. I printed it out on Whisper White card stock using black ink. The house was stamped using black StazOn ink. I highly recommend the StazOn ink if you are going to color the house, the classic black ink will smear and lift off on your marker. The colored area will not look as neat and clean as it does with the StazOn ink.

I colored the house in using the Barely Banana marker. I drew in the details around the windows and door using the Chocolate Chip marker. I stamped the trees and then stamped them again on Garden Green card stock which I cut out and taped in place over the stamped trees on either side of the house. I sponged in the grass and sky with a sponge dauber. And that was pretty much it.

I had a lot of fun making this frame. It helped knowing who I was making it for too!! You can click on the photo for a closer view.

A Tree for the Birds!!! Decor Elements

I thought I would add a little variety to the rub-on tree I have in my workroom. I used the bird from Stampin' Up! "Birds and Blossoms" die cut set. I used Bashful Blue card stock and I sponged the edges before I put the wings on.

I looked up at the tree on my wall as I was typing and noticed the one bird on the left side, the bird in the middle branch at the end.... it's wing was turned the wrong way. If you click on the photo you will see it!!! I'm SO bad at looking over the artwork before I photograph it!!! Good thing I never went into photography. I doubt I'd be in business right now!!! LOL

I just thought the tree could use a little something for spring. I'm not sure what I can do with it for summer. And for fall I as thinking of adding some fall color leaves over the brown leaves. And winter I will add some snowflakes but the leaves will still be on the tree. I'm sure in many areas of the world you see snow and leaves still stay on the trees. But here in Minnesota the leaves fall off and we rake them up for weeks while more fall off the trees. Oh and not to mention all the leaves that blow in the yard from other people's trees!!! And then the trees are leafless. Best part there is you get to see how many birds found your tree to be a safe heaven for them!!

These birds add a splash of color to the wall. The clock also needs to be changed. It's got snowflakes on it. I would like to do one for every season. I thought of putting a bird on the second hand but it would be obvious that it would flying upside-down for half the rotation!!! Is that a good thing or not??? But I do know I need to change the clock from snowflakes to something else. Any suggestions?

This tree is fun to have on the wall. I will be looking at my stamp sets a little differently now to see if I can find something that I have that will work in the tree!!!

Thanks SO much for visiting today. I hope you found something wondrous to spark your creativity today!

A Tree Grows On My Wall!

Sue is such a dear!!!  She came over on Monday and we put the tree up on the wall in my workroom!!  I was SO excited and nervous at the same time.  Though after putting the first piece up the nervous part went away. It was actually pretty easy to do though I really feel that it takes two people to do it.  I don't think I could have done it myself without it sticking to itself and not being able to correct that.  It stuck to itself a couple of times but just a little bit of it and we were able to free it very quickly and easily.

Now as you can see in the photo (I know I could see it) the trunk looked crooked.  But fortunately for me I put this tree up on top of wallpaper and I was able to remove the whole trunk part and reposition it.  When the time comes for it to come down (which will be MANY years from now) it should be easy to remove.  When the Wall Decor first came out Stampin' Up! gave us a sample flower.  I put a part of that flower behind a picture on the wallpaper and I tested it to see if it would come off or stain the wall.
Yes it comes off and no it didn't stain the wallpaper.  And the best thing was it went right back on the wall like a window cling and it doesn't slough or curl, it just sticks there like it's suppose to!!!  Lucky me!!  Especially with my luck with trees lately!!! LOL

I took a lot of photos but I'm only going to post a few of them here.  I have a lot of problems with the post when I have more than one photo on it.  It seems that I need to write a novel for all the photos to be able to fit nicely on the post.  But how much can you write about this.  You buy the thing, you rub it on your wall, you remove the paper backing and you take a bunch of phots as you do it!!! LOL

Anyway, back to the wall!!!  I would do this again in another room but I don't want two trees in my home.  I did use the "family" words above our pictures in the living room but that will be coming off later this summer.  The plan is to paint that wall in the Stampin' Up! color Pumpkin Pie.  Hubby agreed that it would be such a perfect color for that long wall.  But that is not going to happen until our son's room gets painted.  I did the closet last year and that is as far as I got.  The ceiling is next and then the walls.  The walls have a wallpaper border that needs to come off.  Hopefully it will be easy since it's been on the wall for over a decade!!!  It's hard to believe it's been up that long. But on the other hand it's nice to know things like that will stick to the wall that long!!! LOL

Enjoy the photos.  It was fun and I'd LOVE to do it again!!!

Decor Elements Projects!!!

I got brave and played with my Decor Elements.

First I put the "Family" words above a grouping of family photos. Funny how it just seemed appropriate to have it there!!!! LOL

I REALLY like it. I did have to cut off over 3" from the top and from the bottom before I put it up on the wall. There wasn't a lot of room between the wall and the ceiling and I didn't want the words to go on the wall crooked because the ceiling got in the way!!! Plus I thought all that excess would show up on the wall. Well, there was still excess on either edge and it does NOT show up on the wall. It just disapperared like magic!!! When I got off the ladder I stepped back and was in awe. I just LOVE it. And get this DH really liked it too.

Then I must have been feeling lucky so I moved on to my workroom to work on the "Season of Blessings" frame. Now this didn't turn out as well as I wanted it to. I was hovering over the frame trying to get the wording on there straight and the next thing I knew the words were stuck to the glass. And I mean stuck. I thought I could lift the paper up but the smaller words started coming off so I knew I was stuck. All I could do was affix them and hope for the best. And *insert heavy sigh here* it's crooked. I am toying with the idea of removing it and purchasing a new one.

Sue suggested I put a leaf in the upper left corner to bring the eye back that way and the words wouldn't look so crooked. I tried that and I had crooked words on a frame with a leaf in the corner!!! LOL The leaf fell off, landed on the floor and one of the cats claimed it as their new toy!!!

All in all it was a fun experience though I do have to say I liked putting the one on the wall much better than on the glass. I am now considering some of the other wall decor elements for my home. What a fun and easy way to decorate your home!!!

Completely Out of the Box!!!

I took a GIANT step out of the stamping box here. I used my love for primitive stitching and the Accents & Elements Flower Fusion felt flowers to make this for Sue! Sue is the BEST!! She's my upline and has been VERY supportive of me, very helpful and had a good ear to listen to me!! And she's a good friend!

There's not a lot to explain here. I stitched the wording with DMC floss on muslin and added the flowers. I secured them in place with the brads. I cut a few of the green flowers up so I could use them as leaves. I usually stain dye my fabric but here I used the Stampin' Up! chalks to give the piece an aged look to it.

This was a LOT of fun to do. And these flowers are SO much fun to play with.

I Was Given a Challenge

A fellow demonstrator challenged me at our last meeting. It was an interesting challenge. She gave me a 5" wooden spoon and asked me what I could do with it. Stamping doesn't have to be limited to paper. You can stamp on a variety of mediums.

Well Cyndi, here it is. I had limited supplies here. I would have like to have added some tiny holly leaves and berries but I didn't have any. But this gives you an idea of what you can do with it.

Here I stamped the snowman from the "Merry & Bright set by Stampin' Up! on tissue paper and affixed it to the spoon with Crystal Effects. It's pretty much the same technique as the "Stamping on a Pumpkin" technique is. I just added some greens and a bow and you have a quick ornament or wall decor. This would also be adorable with a gingerbread boy in the center and affixed to a handmade cookbook!

There you go Cyndi!! I'm ready for the next challenge!

Monogram Alphabets

Here is another monogram letter I did at one of the monthly meetings. It's hard to see it but the edges are done in Bashful Blue. I have mine on the wall in my workroom! It was a fun project. Monogram letters just aren't for cards!!! Have some fun with them. This one was traced and cut out of wood. You can do the same with chipboard and if you want it thicker, cut out more than one and glue them together. It's fun when you can take stamped items and hang them up on your wall!

Monogram Wall Art

If you have a Stampin' Up! Catalog & Idea Book, turn to page 84! TOTALLY CASE'd!!!

When I bought the monogram stamp I kept the backing. I took that piece (saved me from having to make my own template!) and I traced it onto a piece of wood. I cut the wood out and just copied the one in the catalog to a "T"! Well, why not?? It is VERY nice!

Talented Friends

I was at a stamping event tonight. It's a monthly event my upline puts on for us. It's called DIVA Day. And I don't remember what the DIVA acronym means. But I'm sure Sue will send me an email tomorrow reminding me!!!! We all look forward to our DIVA Day! We are spoiled. There's cards to make, dinner, chatting, laughing, a short business meeting and "show and tell."

This is a frame my friend Gerry made. I just LOVE it! She's a fabulous stamper and a sweet person too! Yes, this is the same Gerry I borrowed the shopping cart stamp from! And it's the same Gerry who's going to borrow me the stamp set so I can make one of these too!!! *winks*

Thank you Gerry for letting me show the world your beautiful work!

Thank you all for checking in on my blog!

Monogram "Welcome" Frame

More fun with the Headline Alphabet set. It seems that everyone is doing a name frame. I did one a while ago and thought I'd share it here with you. The frame was $3.00 from Wal-Mart. Nice frames for such a low price! These are great for Speciality Classes. If you click on the photo you'll be able to see background of each letter is different. It was a very fun project to do. A bit time consuming trying to decide what colors I wanted and where but then again I usually take a lot of time trying to arrange my colors before I finish a project! These make fabulous gifts too!
