Blossom Builder and Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Bath Salts Gift Bag Weekend Project

While looking though my notebooks, I ran across a recipe for bath salts.  I have not made any in a long time.  They are super easy to make and the link to my easy recipe can be found below.

For my bag I used the "Birthday Bouquet" decorative paper. I took a 5/8" x 10-1/2" strip of Mint Macaron card stock to make a band for the bag.  I didn't like the idea of stapling the bag closed.  It's too pretty of a paper to do that plus the paper will probably rip when someone opens it.  I embellished the band with a flower and leaf from the "Blossom Builder" Thinlit set. I also cut the heart out from the "Mini Treat Bag" Thinlits. I cut the Mint Macaron and Whisper White at the same time.  I trimmed the edges of the white so it would have a nice border around the heart.  Next I took the "My Friend" from the "Six Sided Sampler" set and stamped the white heart. I taped the two hearts together and added a flower.

Next I mixed up a batch of bath salts.  You can pour as much
as you want in the baggie.  I get my baggies at Wal-Mart in their craft section.  My bag was a little large so only one fit in the gift bag.  I usually make smaller ones. That way you can say something like "empty the entire contents of one bag into your bath water, relax and enjoy".  Now I will have to change mine to "add one Tablespoonful to your bath water, relax and enjoy."

When you make these, it's best to include an ingredients list and directions.  Especially if you make them to sell.  A tip on making the bath salts.  Use a glass bowl to mix it in.  Plastic bowls will hold the smell of the fragrance oils and some of them will start to "melt" the plastic.  They are fine in the plastic bags after they've been thoroughly mixed. I don't know how long they will keep in the plastic bag.  Most people use them soon after they receive them, so I have no feedback on that part.

You can find my recipe here.  Sometimes you can find a good price on Epsom Salts at Walgreen's, but I usually get mine at Wal-Mart.

Have fun making these!  They make great gifts for friends, teachers, customer appreciation, hostess appreciation, co-workers, and stocking stuffers.

Thank you SO much for visiting today,

Salt & Sugar Scrub Recipe

I have gotten a LOT of requests for the Salt & Sugar Scrub recipe. Click here for the Salt & Sugar Scrub post.

This is a very easy recipe. Be sure to use a glass bowl to mix the ingredients in. And please read through the instructions before you begin.

Salt & Sugar Scrub Recipe

1 cup salt, any type will work (Kosher, coarse, table)
1 cup sugar, granulated
8 ounces of Sunflower Oil
Fragrance
Colorant (optional)

Mix the salt and sugar together in a glass bowl. Add the sunflower oil and stir until salt and sugar are moistened. Add the fragrance and colorant at the same time. Mix until the color is consistent.

notes:
Sunflower oil is not the same as the kind you buy in the grocery store. You can also use palm kernel oil too. I use whichever is cheaper at the time.
Colorant is optional. Not everyone can tolerate the dyes.
When making these for gifts and especially if selling them you need to include the ingredients (not the recipe, just a list of what is in it) along with the warnings. Example, eye irritant, not fur use for children under whatever age is set by your health board.
How to use the product. For this one you stir the container. Place some on your hands and "wash" them. Wash off with soap and water. Pat to dry. On my "warnings" I did include that if you were using this in the tub or shower to be careful because the floor can become slippery.

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Thank you all for waiting so patiently while I found some spare time to enter this!
Have fun with this!

Blender Pen Refill Recipe

I'm adding my Blender Pen Refill Recipe to my blog so I will always know where it is!!! I can't believe I didn't think of this before! I keep losing things and I'd hate to lose this. I really like how this recipe works with my pens, markers and crayons. Yes, this is the recipe I gave to all my Watercolor Crayon Club members and now it's here for you too!!

You will need a one ounce bottle.

2 teaspoons Glycerin
4 teaspoons Distilled* Water
1/4 teaspoon Rubbing Alcohol

Mix all ingredients together.

*Note: You MUST use distilled water. Tap water has minerals, Chlorine and other impurities in it. These will cause your pen to smell and/or get moldy.

I keep misting bottles on my worktable and they are ALWAYS filled with Distilled Water. It's not worth the stink, mold or scum that could form inside the bottles. A gallon is under $1 and it lasts a LONG time. I highly recommend you invest in it.
There now you know where you can always find your recipe too!

Pamper Me Pink Bath Salts & Recipe!

This is the last item that was made at the Pamper Me Pink Stamp Camp. It was one of my favorites! I LOVE making bath products! For this project the following items were used:

Glass Clip Jar (or any glass jar that seals)
Regal Rose Card Stock
Whisper White Card Stock
Regal Rose Ink Pad
Tagger's Dozen Stamp Set
Silver Cording
Anywhere Glue Stick
Stamp-A-Ma-Jig
Bath Scoop
Bath Salts

Measure your Regal Rose card stock to fit around your jar. A 9" long strip by 1 1/2" strip was used here. The Whisper White strip was cut 9" long by 1" wide. Stamp your image onto the white card stock. A stamp-a-ma-jig was used here to keep the butterflies in a flowing line. When you have finished stamping, take the glue stick and cover the back of the white piece of card stock and center it onto the rose piece. Cover the back of the rose piece with the glue stick and adhere it to the glass. The piece should overlap a little. You need this overlapping to help it stay stuck. The one in the photo overlaps by 3/4".
*
Your scoop will need a hole in the handle to put the silver cord though. You can do this by taking a large sewing needle and holding the tip of it under a candle to get it hot. Once it's hot poke a hole in the handle and it will melt through. You can take an x-acto knife and carve around the hole a little to clean it up. Tie your silver cord onto the handle and tie it in a pretty bow! The handle will fit into the hinge of the clip. The side ring doesn't meet all the way in the back and you can wiggle the handle in there so it stands straight. If the ends are too close together you can pull them out a bit with a pliers.
*
Fill your jar with bath salts and you're done!
*
This is a very simple bath salt recipe. There are many other recipes on the Internet. I like simple ingredients and I like quick things. This one is both!!
*
Bath Salts Recipe
1 c. coarse salt. (canning or Kosher works just fine)
1 c. Epsom salts
1/4 t. fragrance or essential oil
*
Pour the above ingredients into a glass bowl and mix together with a metal spoon. You can also pour them into a quart size jar, put the lid on it and shake it. If you choose to do this method put the fragrance in second and the epsom salts on top. That way when you shake it the fragrance won't stick to the top.
*
TIPS:
Remember when working with fragrance oils, plastic is your enemy. Fragrance oils will eat away at plastic, so it's not good to mix them or store them in plastic.
*
When making these to sell you will need to include ingredients plus you need to use the Stampin' Up! copyright stamp on it. If using Stampin' Up! stamps to make this for sale you must remember that you are not permitted to sell these in any place that is permanent. You can sell at craft fairs and boutiques. Check with your demonstrator or with Stampin' Up! for the guidelines. Penalties and fees are not worth the money and time you spend making items to sell.
*
Make sure you remove any bath salts from the rim of the jar before you close the lid.
*
The jar is from Michael's and the adorable bath scoops are from the Southern Goose http://www.southerngoose.com/
*These make fabulous gifts for your hostess, friends, family and teachers! Have fun!

Pint Size Milk Carton with Recipe and Pattern Links

Ok, here it is! A smaller version of the first milk carton I posted a few days ago. This one is shorter and it comes with a pattern!! Oh and a recipe for Milk Bath. I made this milk carton the same way I did with the other one. I used the eraser end of a brand new #2 pencil for the spots. I used the Stampin’ Up! sets, Label Classics and Very Punny. I used a one inch piece of black card stock for the band and I ran it through the paper crimper first. Make sure you place the milk bath in the carton before you begin sealing up the top. For this one I only glued half of the top shut. The other half I used a punch and tied a ribbon. I thought it would look nicer and be easier to open and it wouldn’t ruin the carton once it’s opened.

Milk Bath Recipe
1 cup Fine Sea Salt
2 cups powdered milk
4 to 8 mL desired fragrance

Measure out fine Sea Salt, add fragrance. Mix well. Add milk powder and blend, making sure all ingredients are well combined.
Other recipes can be found by going to www.google.com and entering in Free Milk Bath Recipe.

The pattern is from the website By Donovan.
