A Lotus Blossom Note Holder

While surfing the net I ran across a note holder on a German web site run by Jana, you can see it here.  I liked the concept.  I dug out a scratch pad and measured the card stock from that.  I just laid the note pad on the card stock and marked it with a pencil and cut it to fit.  Then I marked how thick it was and scored the fold lines.  I should have taken another photo to show you the folds.  I used a half sheet of card stock and I lined up the left edge with the note pad and then I marked where the scores would go.  I was going to cut off the card stock to be flush with the back of the note pad but I decided to go ahead and score it so it folded over on top of the note pad.  It only goes about half way across the pad front on the inside.

Once I got the folded thing down, I glued the note pad to the card stock.

I added a small piece of Blackberry Bliss decorative paper along the edge.  Then I stamped my flower using the Lotus Blossom set.  I used Old Olive for the stem.  I layered the image using some Blackberry Bliss card stock.  I wanted matching ribbon but I didn't have any so I used the Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities and I colored in the ribbon.  I think it matched rather well in person.  The light reflects a bit differently on the photo and it looks a little off!

The words are from a custom made stamp I had done many years ago.  I LOVE making note cards and note holders and when you make them, you just HAVE to have a "notes" stamp!!!

Watercolor Wonder Post-it Note Holder Weekend Project

I have not done a "Weekend Project" in a while and I thought I would play with the new scalloped tag punch to make one.

I cut my Watercolor Wonder decorative paper 2" x 5".  I punched the scalloped edge and then proceeded to wrap the paper around my 1-1/2" x 2" sticky note paper.  I creased the edges with the bone folder.  You want them nice and sharp.  Once I was done doing that I folded the top flap shut like you would if it were all put together.

Next I took a pencil and marked on both sides of the center scallop.  I took my craft knife and cut a line dot to dot.  This slit is for that tip of the scallop to go through to hold the cover down on the note holder.

Then I picked out a flower I liked from the "Petite Petals" set and stamped it using Crisp Cantaloupe.  I punched it out and set it in place over the opening of the tag using a Dimensional.  I didn't really want that part of the tag to show.  Be careful not to press to hard on the flower when the top flap is shut, the Dimensional is partly exposed and can stick to your note paper.  Use a little corn starch on the exposed Dimensional to make it not sticky anymore.  You can also use some clear tape but that will show.  After adding the flower I added a Candy Dot to the center, tucked the tip of the scallop in the slit I created and it was done!  Oh SO simple and quick too!  These would be great for little Hostess Gifts, Customer Appreciation Gifts, Make n Takes or just to have for yourself!

A Scentsational Season Note Holder

A while back I had gotten some fun note holders at the Dollar Spot at Target.  The covers had images on them I didn't care for. One had Monster's Inc. characters and the other had the vehicles from the movie Cars.  SO I just open up the holder and rip out the inside holder. I usually use the paper for scratch paper because it never matches the papers I use on the front.  They are kind of a pale peach paper.  I do end up using it up so it doesn't go to waste.

Here I covered the outside using the Be of Good Cheer decorative paper.  I liked the strips in this pack.  I cut it to fit around the outside.  Then I added a piece of 30# copier paper to the inside to cover the edges of the decorative paper.  I also wrapped a piece of that copier paper around the inside piece that holds the note paper.

I took the tiny little gingerbread stamp from the Jolly Bingo Set and stamped him in the bottom corner of each piece of paper.  I don't usually stamp the papers inside the holder but this time I did.  After finishing I reminded myself not to do that again!!!  It took a bit of time but it wasn't grueling.

I made the belly band by taking a piece of Very Vanilla cut 11" x 1-1/4" and wrapped it around the box and glued it at the ends.  Then I took a piece of Cherry Cobbler and did the same thing but I also glued it to the Very Vanilla.

I stamped 3 of the Scentational Season gingerbread boys and cut them out with the gingerbread boy die.  Talk about easy!  I don't think the front would have had 3 gingerbread boys on it if I would have had to cut them out by hand.  I glued two of them to the front of the note holder and one to the Belly Band.  I thought the sides of the belly band looked a bit sparse so I stamped a couple of peppermint candies from the Jolly Bingo Set and those I had to cut out by hand.  I glued them in place and liked what I saw but the front looked like it still needed something. I had to be careful of what I added because I needed the belly band to be able to slide over it.  So I thought I would give the gingerbread boys some color by adding a bow tie and that was just what it needed.  I'll be packaging it up for the fall craft fair.  Ok, it is fall now. My how time has flown by.  The craft fair is next month at Epiphany church on Hanson Blvd. in Coon Rapids.  It is on November 3rd.  I'm SO far behind.  So tomorrow I'm probably going to post a quick to make card and work on my polymer clay.  I have some Santa's and snowmen I need to make and bake!

Covered Post-it Note Holder Weekend Project

Today I have for you a fun and pretty easy Weekend Project.  It just takes a little time to do but not a whole lot.  It's SO worth it.  And lucky you, I am going to give you the directions on how to make this.  The original one I have from MANY years ago was made using wallpaper.  What a great way to use up those left over piece of wallpaper.  Does anyone wallpaper anymore?  I still have some rooms with paper on the walls that I need to take off.  But that all takes time and I'd rather stamp and craft than take down wallpaper.  LOL

Ok, I know you want me to tell you how you can make one of these!

First you will need a pack of Post-it notes or sticky notes.  You will need some cardboard commonly known as box board.  It's the kind that cereal boxes or tissue boxes are made of.  That kind.  If you don't have any that thick you can glue 3 to 4 pieces of card stock together and let them dry overnight under something heavy.

You will need to cut that cardboard 3-1/4" x 3-1/4".  Cut two of them that size.  Then you need to cut a strip 3-1/4" x 3/8".

Cut a piece of decorative paper to measure 8-1/2" x 4-1/2".  Lay your cardboard pieces on it as shown in the second photo.  To keep the spaces even between the tiny strip and larger pieces I used a toothpick.

Looking at the photo you can see where I cut the pieces on the sides. I cut it even with the cardboard.  And that top strip with the green showing, I cut off that folded little square on each end.  Then I cut the side edge at an angle but not too big of an angle, I didn't want any of the cardboard to show.  After cutting the angels, I glued that top strip in place.  I used a glue stick for my gluing here.

I removed the tooth picks and added a strip of decorative paper measuring 6-1/2" x 2-3/4" and I glued it over the exposed card board.  It's wide enough to cover the decorative paper too.  It gives the inside a nice finished look.  There is a trick to adding this piece.  I laid it on the whole piece and folded one side and then carefully pulled the paper back to get any air bubbles out of it and then guided the paper on as I worked my way to the end.

I took a piece of cardboard and cut it 3" x 3" (the same size as the sticky notes) and I glued it to the back of the notes.  Then I glued that in place onto the holder.  And then you can decorate it as you desire.  I opted for a belly band.  If I would have made the holder a little longer I could have punched a few holes in it, threaded some bakers twine or ribbon through it and tied the cover shut.  But I didn't so I opted for the belly band.  Either one works. And personally I like belly bands on things like this.

I tied a piece of ribbon around the spine of the holder and I tied a pretty bow in the middle. That was it.  A fun project.  I want to make some more for the craft fair.  I have a box full of sticky notes.  I think I got them at a great price at Staples a while back.  Hunt around for the best price!

And this project makes it #200 in the "Weekend Projects" posts here!  WOW, that will keep someone busy for almost 4 years!!! LOL

Circle Circus Note Pad Holder Weekend Project

Today I made another note holder.  You can click here to see more details on a different one I made.  I had gotten these fun note paper holders at Target in their Dollar Spot.  I LOVE doing altered notebooks and note holders.

To make these I take the whole thing apart.  I open them up, take off the tray and I usually use the paper that is included inside.  It's not the best paper but it's good enough for the little notes I write all the time.  I replace them with white copier paper notes that I cut to fit the holder.

For this holder I had taken white 30# copier paper and covered the outside of the holder.  The tray part that the paper goes in was already white so I didn't need to do anything with that.  I glued the paper to the holder and wrapped the edges over and glued them on the inside.

On the front I used the Circle Circus set.  I had gotten this set because it looked like it would be a lot of fun but I have not used it much.  SO I thought I would play with it for the front of this note holder.  I got some fun bright colors out and just randomly stamped them on my card stock.

Next I cut a piece of Pacific Point to fit the front cover.  From there I cut a piece of the Circle Circus stamped piece to fit on top of the Pacific Point.  I taped both of the layers together and then I taped them in place on top of the holder.

I stamped a red image from the set and cut it out by hand.  I punched the scallop circle and taped the red piece on top.  I also punched out a little yellow flower shaped piece for the center.  I taped that in place and then cut the belly band.  I cut the strip 11" x 1" and wrapped it around the holder and glued it in place.  I centered the scalloped piece over the seams of the band.

The part that I thought was a lot of fun was how I glued the tray back in place on the cover and slid the band on the note holder.  I set a heavy object on the holder and left it to dry.  When I came back everything was all set!  I LOVE it when I don't have to wait around for stuff to dry!!!

I find these very fun to make and love it when I can find fun ways to decorate them.  I'll be adding this to the box of stuff I'm going to be selling at the fall craft fair!

Altered Note Holder

Ok, here it is. The project I told you I was going to post and it kept getting delayed.

I love buying these little dollar boxes at Target.  They even come with scratch paper inside.  I often take the paper out and use it and cut my own white paper for the box.  Here I didn't need to add a different color paper because the paper matched the decorative paper.  That doesn't happen very often!!

To make these altered note holders I usually take off the inside box.  I then redecorate the outside and put the box back on.  I sometimes decorate the box too.  For this one I added a strip of the decorative paper around the inside box.  It's the same paper as the belly band.  Sometimes, when I remember to do it, while I'm putting the decorative paper on I will work a ribbon in there and tie the box shut.  The only thing I don't like about that is that once it's opened it's usually difficult to retie it.  And even if you do get it retied it never looks the same as that first fresh knot did.  So I am leaning towards belly bands on the future note holders I need to alter!  I have a box full of these.  I had bought them for a gift project that had now gone by the wayside.  But that's ok.  I will use them for the upcoming craft fair.  I had gotten most of them at a discounted price so I can keep the price low on the item and sell them ALL.  Hopefully!!!

The second photo is showing the inside of the note holder.  You can see the papers that came with it in the holder.  See how well they go with the decorative paper?

I used the Very Vintage set for the front on the belly band.  And the scalloped layered circle also covers the seam of the belly band.  I like the smooth look around the holder with the seam hidden, don't you?

Click here to see one that I made a while back. This one shows the original note holder with Buz Lightyear on it!  You can get a better idea of what to look for when you go to Target.  And trust me, these things don't last long in the store!

So now I need to make up a few more of these and box them up for the craft fair!!! I need to get a move on this stuff.  I do work good under pressure but I don't like to!  I would like to have my stuff done before the craft fair.  I want to try to do some each month and then closer to the craft fair I won't have to scramble and lose sleep to get the things done I wanted done!!!  I do this to myself every time I'm in a craft fair.

So there you have it, my altered note holder!

Santa Theme Scratch Pad Holder Stocking Stuffer

I've been making some fun Stocking Stuffers lately.  It's always great to have some fun things to put in the stockings that don't cost an arm and a leg.  And what better to put in the stocking than a scratch pad.  We play games on Christmas day and it's nice to have something to write on to keep score!

This is a quick project to make too.  You just cut and score the card stock, punch the buttons, buckle and the "fir", add a belt and you're done!!!

You need a piece of red card stock cut 6" x 12".  Score it on the long side at 4", 4-3/8" and 8-1/4".  Fold the score lines inward.

Take the Word Window punch and punch the far right panel about 1/4" down and all across the top of that panel.  Be sure to leave 1/4" on each side of the panel. Using the window punch allows you to refill this note holder!!
Next fold the panel you punched inward.  Use a bone folder to make a sharp crease.  With the panel open glue the far right edge (the 6" end) and the bottom of that panel.  Use your bone folder to help the glue to adhere to the card stock.  Insert the scratch pad and fold over the other two scored pieces.  The top piece may need to be trimmed 1/8".  You will see this once the scratch pad has been inserted and the other score lines folded in.

Decorate the front as desired.  Here I used the lace punch to make the fir.  I used a 1" circle punch for the buttons and I used a 3/4" and a 1-3/4" square punches for the buckle.  And that is it.  Very simple and very quick to make!

These are also great for a Make n Take, Stamp Camp and you can even sell them at your local craft fairs.  Oh and they do make fun Stocking Stuffers!!!  For more stocking stuffer ideas just click here.

Christmas Shopping Lists Notebook/Folder

Today for the "Fun Fold Friday" item I have a very fun and useful Christmas shopping list keeper/holder/folder, whatever you'd like to call it.  I designed it to put in my purse and be an aid in my Christmas shopping.  Step one would be to know who you are buying for and then to know what they want.  After that it's the shopping and crossing things off the list!!! I LOVE all of that part, it's the wrapping of these "things" on the list that slow me up at Christmas time!!!

Anyway, I bet you would like to know how to make one or several of these?  Well, I'm going to tell you!!!

First you take a piece of card stock. Here I used Riding Hood Red.  I cut it3-7/8" x 9-1/4".  I scored on the long side at 3/4" and 5-1/4".  Fold the scored lines inward and set aside.

Next I cut a piece of Always Artichoke card stock 3-3/8" x 3-5/8" and on top of that I layered a piece of decorative paper that measured 3-1/4" x 3-1/2".

If you want to decorate the bottom flap the card stock was cut at 3/4" x 3-1/3" and the decorative paper was cut at 5/8" x 3-1/2".

Download the pages for the inside and print them out.  You can decorate them as much or as little as you want.  Cut them at 3-15/32" x 4-1/4".  The long side needs to be cut into 3rds that is why the 15/32 inch part is there.

To assemble the pages you just jog them together so the edges are even or as even as can be, insert them into the bottom of the holder in the fold of the short flap and staple them about 1/4" above the edge of the fold.  Your shopping list folder is now ready to use!

You can also access the download by clicking on my web store link which is on the top right side of my blog "Shopping is just a click away"If  you don't see the download in the store you may have to go to the top of the page (in the store) and click on the number of items per page to view.  The download is free!!!
Have fun with this!

Northern Flurry Snowflake Note Holder Weekend Project

Today I was playing around with the "Deck the Halls" fabric. I LOVE altered items and this one is no exception. I had a note holder with some "Monster's Inc." characters on them. Since I felt I was a bit too old for that on my notes I thought I would recover it.
First I took the monster paper out of the box. Then I took the box off the cover.

I laid a piece of batting on the top and then I covered the cover with the fabric. I used tacky glue to hold it in place. I let it dry for a bit.

While it was drying I took some white velvet paper I found while digging for something else in my workroom. I ran it through the Sizzix using the new "Northern Flurry" snowflake die. Such a beautiful die and it makes the most perfect snowflakes!

Once I felt the glue was dry enough I cut a piece of white muslin and placed it on the inside of the cover to hide the edges of the Deck the Halls fabric.

Then I glued the snowflakes in place.

I glued on a piece of ribbon to the cover. I glued it on the inside. I ran it across the front and glued it from the center of the front and all the way around the back.

I added the pearls and the note holder was done. All I needed was to cut some copier paper for the inside and to close it with the ribbon. Since the ribbon was only glued from the center to the spine and on the back that left a small opening in the ribbon for the tail of it to slip though and hold the cover shut. I didn't have to deal with tying a bow and trying to get it straight. And don't forget that they are not all that fun to retie once you open it up! This way is just slick. Slip the end in the top part of the ribbon and pull it through the bottom. It holds it shut and looks nice too. I did add some tiny pearls to the ribbon. It just looked to plain without it! So now I have to decide if I'm going to keep it, give it away or sell it at the upcoming craft fair! Touch decision!

These do make wonderful gifts for friends, co-workers and teachers too! It would also be a fun Stamp Camp item!

Post-it Holder Purse Weekend Project

I was having some fun making these adorable Post-it Holder Purses. These were SO easy too! Really, they were. What makes them SO easy? They are made using a Sizzix die. I just ran the card stock through the Sizzix machine with the die and a few creases on the score lines and I had a cute little purse.

I cut mine from Crushed Curry card stock. I used the Crushed Curry polka dot ribbon for the handle. I taped it in place with the Sticky Strip tape. I needed something with a bit more stick to it than regular mono adhesive. I used a half a Velcro circle as a clasp to hold the holder shut.

What is nice about these is you can refill them. The last sheet or backing is taped on so when you are finished with the last note you just tape another pad in its place.

I added a few die cut flower pieces to the front. I stuck them together with a brad and set them in place on the front with a Dimensional. I added a few leaves and that part was done.

The word "notes" is from a special order stamp by Stampin' Up! I just selected a one line address stamp and I stamped it on white card stock, punched it out with a 3/4" circle punch and layered it with larger circles. I just taped it in place with mono adhesive. I didn't want it sticking up too much because it could get caught on things and get ruined.

On the very front of the holder I did run a scrap piece of Rich Razzleberry decorative paper on the die cut form and taped it in place over the Crushed Curry. It was SO easy to make and just too cute. I even made some using the "Thoroughly Modern File Folders." Those I didn't have to add anything to the flap, the folders are muli-tone. I added flowers and the "notes" like these have. SO quick and SO simple.

These would be great for gifts, including teacher gifts! They would be a fun Make n Take, a customer appreciation gift, Hostess appreciation gift, a fun Stamp Camp item and I made some to sell at the fall Craft Fair. Don't forget to use the angel stamp with the Stampin' Up! copyright on it if you are planning to sell them. I stamp mine before I put them together, it's much easier to stamp them when they are flat.

Scratch Pad and Pencil Holder

This scratch pad holder was very easy and fun to make. I used the Stampin' Up! "Bella Bleu" decorative papers. I LOVE that pack of papers. And of course I had to play around with the new border punch too! SO glad it's going to be in the new catalog.

The adorable pencil holder is from a design by Nichole Heady at "Capture the Moment". She has the pattern for it at her site.

I did mine a bit differently than she did hers. I didn't make my holder part have the slot for sticking "stuff" into it. I just made a front and back to mine. I did add a little more card stock width to the back so the pencil holder could be taped in place there. The pencil holder Nichole has prints out on card stock right from your computer and you just cut and put it together. Very simple!

On mine, the "Don't Forget" came from the Stampin' Up! "Teacher's Pet" set.

I did take my pencil out in the garage and used the band saw to cut it down a bit. I suppose I could have just run it in the pencil sharpener until I got it shorter. And it would be sharp too! This one is not sharpened.

Oh and I did change the length of the pencil holder part too. I made it the same length as the scratch pad holder. I think it's adorable. I have lots and lots of decorative papers and I have LOTS of scratch pads too. I think I bought a case of them a few years ago!

Isn't it just adorable? And it's SO quick to make too. Well, the pencil holder did take a little time cutting out by hand but it's SO worth it. And it is very easy to cut out. These would make fabulous gifts and stocking stuffers! It would be great to get a head start on stocking stuffers!

I do have a couple more Valentine's Day things to post this week and the rest will be back to "business as usual." Which means I don't want to fill the week with Valentine's Day stuff when it's only a week away. Not much time to play and get new things created!

Thank you SO much for visiting today.

A Bigger Note

I am so use to making smaller note holders and this one was a bit of a challenge for me. While sorting through some "stuff" in my workroom I ran across a small legal pad. I thought it would be fun to make a fun holder for it. I was going to use card stock when I remembered I had bought a package of the Stampin' Up! "Thoroughly Modern File Folders." Another one of those "why did I buy these?" purchases. I thought the looked cool but really had no plans for them. I will probably be cutting them up to use in projects. And as I am looking at the package right now the word "Sizzix" is going through my head!!! I'm going to have to check out the die cuts and see which ones will work with these!!!

If you don't have these file folders you can cut card stock to work too. It's not quite as heavy but it will do the job!

To make this I kept the factory fold and cut the back side at 7-1/2" and then I scored above the original score at 7/16". Then I marked the front at 7-1/2" from that score and cut it.

That is all you need for the holder. Very simple and quick.

I did have to cut the notepad down a bit. I didn't want a long full-size one. I cut off enough so the notepad is now 6-1/4". I added a piece of white grosgrain ribbon and then a piece of Soft Suede on top of that. I did tape them in place with the Sticky Strip tape. I wanted something that would hold.

Then I added Stick Strip to the back of the notepad and taped it in place.

For the pen I took a one inch piece of Soft Suede card stock and rolled it around the pen. I saw where it overlapped and cut it there. I didn't measure the length of that piece. It will vary a bit from pen to pen. I used glue to hold the card stock. Tape would work for a while but then in time it will come apart. Glue is the way to go here, including affixing it to the inside of the folder.

These make quick and easy gifts. Great items for teachers too!

On the front I did decorate it with a couple of ovals layered on a scalloped layer. The word "notes" came from a custom stamp I had made.

Have fun making these. They are simple enough that even the kiddies can help work on them with you, giving little gifts a more personal touch!

Love Notes!

I thought it was time for some altered art! It's been a long time since I've done that and when I was at Target they had these fun note paper holders. They had 3 different ones, the Toy Story, Monster's Inc. and one other one. The other one didn't seem to be as well put together as the other two so I passed on it.

This is a very easy project to do. I think the most difficult part of it was taking apart the original note holder.

To redo this all you do is take the paper out of the holder. Remove the holder. Take a piece of decorative paper. Here I used a half sheet of the Stampin' Up! "Candy Lane" paper. I taped the paper around the original holder. When taping you want to tape it in sections. I taped the lid first, then folded the paper to the back spine and taped it and then to the bottom. If you tape it all at once you will not be able to shut the lid. You must give it some easement so folding and taping as you go is the best way to d to it.

Once I got the outside taped down I clipped a few edges so I could fold the ends over and tape them in place. I covered the inside with another piece of decorative paper. And as for the holder, well ... it was white and I just left it as it was. It didn't distract from the decorative paper so why not use it as it is. I just used the Stick Strip tape to hold it in place.

Then I took some copier paper and cut it to fit the box. I stamped a heart in the corner of the paper to pull the theme all together here!!! And the final touch was the ribbon on the outside. This also helps keep the lid shut!

I decorated the outside with the Stampin' Up! "Love You Much" set. I added some hearts using some decorative papers and the 3 Hearts punch. I added a little rhinestone in the middle of the flower in the words "LOVE" and I added a heart on Dimensionals to the center of the word. And the final thing I added was a cute little button at the bottom next to the two punched hearts.

It was a quick and simple altered item to make. I bought some extra note holders and plan on making some of these for the fall craft fairs. I had made these before using the snowman from Tags & More and I sold every one of them!! I was SO thrilled to see these for sale again so like I said, I bought some extra!!!

Find something to alter and just have fun with it!!!
