Flower Shop meets Flowering Flourishes

I had made a card like this a while back using the "Flowering Flourishes" set and "Teeny Tiny Wishes" for the birthday greeting. I had that card sitting on the ledge in my workroom and I thought how pretty it might look with a flower on it. We all know how this scenario goes.  What looks good in my thoughts doesn't always turn out so good on paper.  And lucky you, I share it with you anyway!!! LOL

This card turned out ok. Not as pretty as I imagined it but it's doable!

I used Gumball Green for the cardstock and ink.  The flower was stamped using Primrose petals on Strawberry Slush cardstock.  I found the most difficult part of this card was to get that flourish in the right spot.  So of course I (finally) got out the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig.  I have a couple of sheets of cardstock of failures.  Live and learn?  Me?  *giggles*  Maybe someday!

Oh and I almost forgot. For the center of the flower I used glue and Dazzling Diamonds. The glue was still wet when I took the photo.  It did dry clear and it sparkles SO pretty!

My original card can be found here along with the measurements if you want to make one yourself.

Make A Mitten Stamp Set and Punch

Don't you just love it when a stamp set comes out with a matching  punch?  Especially a Christmas one?  It makes making that huge stack of Christmas cards SO much easier.

This is not going to be one of my Christmas cards but one never knows. I change my mind so often when it comes to what I want to use for our yearly Christmas card. It would be easy enough to do, though I think if I were to use this for our Christmas cards I would use the Xyron machine to put the sticky on the back sides for all of those dots.  Taping or gluing them in place would be a lot easier.  The dots and the ring on this card were actually glued in place.

I got the idea for this card from Maurine  at Mama Mo Stamps.  She had made a baby card with this layout.  I took the layout and ran with it. I colored my dots.  I think hers were stamped and some of them colored in. Stamped dots would also work using a brand new pencil eraser.  I may give that a try but I don't think I would like the color as well as the card stock color.  It's SO much more solid and vivid.  Plus it gives the card a bit more depth.

The mitten was stamped in Real Read and another one was stamped using Garden Green.  The two were punched out and put together.

The colors used here are as follows:  the base is Whisper White. The next layer (cut 4" x 5-1/4") is Pacific Point. The top layer is Whisper White (cut 3-3/4" x 5").  The dots are done using a regular hole paper punch and they were punched using Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point and Garden Green.  The words were stamped using Pacific Point.  And the rest was explained above!!

The ring was done using the 1-1/4" punch and then lining up the 1-3/8" punch and just punching out a ring.

And finally, the words came from the Petite Pairs set.  It's a pretty simple card to make.  I may play around with this layout a bit to see if I can some up with something a bit different.  There's some ideas roaming around in my head.  We'll see if they look as good on paper!!!  We all know how that can sometimes turn out, don't we?  LOL  And of course I'll swallow my pride and show you the horrors of stamped cards gone wrong too!!! LOL  Sometimes you just have to take the ugly with the good!

Wouldn't this make a fun Stamp A Stack card?

Get Well via Blooming With Kindness

I actually did have this stamp set put away.  Honest!!!  I just thought it would make a very pretty get well card and it did.  And talk about easy to make too!!!

The base of my card is Marina Mist.  Then a 5-3/8" x 4-1/8" piece of Basic Black card stock.  On top of that is a piece of  Marina Mist decorative paper cut 5-1/4" x 4".

I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock to measure 3-1/4" x 3-3/4".  I stamped the image using Marina Mist.  Then I took a blender pen and got the blue ink off the stem.  I colored in the stem using a Wild Wasabi marker.  I huffed on the entire image and stamped it on my cut piece of Whisper White card stock.  I layered it on a piece of Basic Black card stock measuring 3-3/8" x 3-7/8".

I punched out a black scalloped circle and a Marina Mist colored circle. The words were punched out from a sheet of words I had printed on my computer.  I have a bunch of circles all punched out and ready to go for when I need them.  They sure do come in handy!

I did set the words in place using Dimensionals.

This was a very quick and extremely fun card to make.

Serene Silhouettes

Did you ever buy a stamp set on a whim and when you started playing with it you knew you made a wonderful choice?  That is how it was with this Serene Silhouettes set.  I wasn't sure why I bought it but once I started playing with it I was glad I bought it.

When I was looking at it in the catalog I had notebook covers in mind but now that I got to play with it for a few minutes I knew I would be using it for much more than just notebooks.  This is an extremely versatile set and I can see myself making LOTS of different cards with it and for different occasions too!

For my card today I used Regal Rose for the base.  On top of that I had cut a 5-3/8" x 4-1/8" piece of Basic Black card stock.  The white piece is cut 5-1/4" x 4".  I stamped the butterfly circle image three times on it.  I didn't even use the Stamp-a-ma-jig, if you can believe that.  I know I was shocked!!!

After I stamped the three images I taped them together.  Then I added a piece of black ribbon around them and taped them in place on top of the base of the card.  If you don't have ribbon, you can always use a piece of black card stock.

The image was stamped on a piece of Whisper White card stock that measured 3-1/2" x 2" using Regal Rose ink.  I stamped it once and moved it slightly and stamped it again.  You will see that better if you click on the photo.  That piece was set on top of a piece of Basic Black measuring 3-5/8" x 2-1/8".  And those two layers were set on top of a piece of Regal Rose that was cut 3-3/4" x 2-1/4".

I finished off the card by adding a few pearls.  Three of them on the flowers.  Again, you'll have to click on the photo to see that closer. There's three small pearls on the corner of the layered image and three larger ones on the circle image piece.

This was a very fun and easy card to make!!

Fun Fold Friday Easy Events

I would like to add one more card using the very fun fold that I showed you on Wednesday.  And speaking of Wednesday, I didn't even get a chance to play with Split Coast Stamper's Sketch Challenge.  I did print it out and it's somewhere on my messy desk!

This card was made by a very fabulous and talented stamper (and wonderful friend) Ann.  She needed to make some thank you cards and this is one of them she came up with.  I am SO loving this fold.  Terri always comes up with some fun fold cards.

The measurements to this card can be found here.  It's a very easy card to put together.  Ann even simplified it more by not adding two layers to the side panel or the ribbon and I think it looks wonderful either way!

I want to wish you all a very fun and safe holiday weekend!  For those of you who are staying home.  Be safe, have fun stamping and watch out for paper cuts!!! LOL

Easy Events Baby Shower Card

I had gotten some requests for measurements on yesterdays card so I thought I would make another card and measure as I go.  I needed to make a baby shower card for my husband's great niece.  Yup, he's going to be a great-great uncle (again!).  And no, he's not really that old!!  His sisters are 17 years older than he is so there's bound to be some generation gaps there!

So to make this card you need to cut your card stock as follows:

Take a piece of card stock cut 5-1/2” x 4-1/4”.  Score it in half on the long side (your score line is 4-1/4” long).

Cut the front flap off at 1-3/4”.

The layer behind the decorative paper is cut 2-3/8” x 5-3/8”

The decorative paper is cut 2-1/4” x 5-1/4”

Put those two layers together and tie a piece of ribbon around the bottom.  Then tape that piece to the front of the card.

The flap is cut 3” x 6” and score it on the long side.  Fold the 3” score.

Decorate your card as you wish.  Today I used the duck from the Easy Events set.  So there you have it, now get to work on it!!!

Check out yesterdays card to see what the inside looks like.  On this card I used Petite Pairs and the words are "welcome baby."  I still need to stamp the duck on the front of the envelope and get a gift card!  But now I have my card done early!  I have one birthday and one anniversary next month and maybe I should get those cards done early too!!!  Wouldn't that be nice to be ahead of the game?

Now You're Cookin"

Isn't this paper adorable???  Can paper be adorable?  Well, I think it can and this paper is adorable!!!  It is from the "Domestic Goddess" pack.  And the fun part of it for me was I got to play with two of the new "In" colors that I have not paid much attention to.  And they are Pool Party and Calypso Coral.  They are SO pretty together.  It makes me think of spring.  Of course without snow and warmer temps it almost feels like spring out there.  I am temped to hang sheets outside tomorrow.  And I may just do that so I can say that I hung sheets outside the last week of December!!!  LOL

I have always loved this layout.  It lets you use those little images in sets that often get left out because they are too small.  This whole card is designed for those little images.  They are the focal point of the card!!  I know I've used this layout a lot but what can I say.  I'm just showing you what to do with those little images!!! LOL

This little image is from the single stamp "Now You're Cookin".  It's got 2 of these cups on it, an oven mitt, a pancake turner and a fork, knife and spoon all on one rubber piece.  I just colored in the cup with a marker because that is what I wanted in the center of this card.

I thought I would send it to a friend with a recipe in it!  It also looks like a great card to use to invite people to coffee or just a pretty thinking of you card to send off to your friends.

The flash really bounced on this card because the coral color is not really that bright of an orange and you can see the coffee cup much better in real life too!  The cup had a little star mark on the image so I thought it would be pretty to add a rhinestone there.  I was going to add a tiny half pearl but the rhinestone sparkling looked prettier!

It's a very simple card to make and I always have fun making these.  And probably because they are quick to make too!

The layers go as follows beginning with the base of the card. 4-1/4" x 11" and fold it in half on the long side.
3-1/2" x 4-5/8" on the coral layer
3" x 4-1/8" for the Pool Party card stock layer
and 2-7/8" x 4" for the decorative paper layer.  And you need a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" piece of scrap paper to stamp on.

When I punched the holes I taped the decorative paper to the card stock at about the spot where the circle will be punched from.  I lined them up as if I were permanently layering them.  Then I dropped the layers all the way inside the 1-1/4" circle punch, I lined up the sides so they were even and I punched out the circle.  Then I took the decorative paper (with the hole already punched in it) and set a piece of scrap copier paper behind it.  I took the 1-3/8" circle punch and punched out a ring.  You toss the ring and keep the decorative paper piece.  The hole is now bigger than the hole on the card stock and when it's set in place it is a circle with a nice layer behind it.  Simple as that.  You can decorate it as much or as little as you wish.  The first card I made with this sits out all of the time because I have the instructions on the inside and since I make so many of these I like to have it at hand!  Give it a try with one of those small (less than an inch) stamps and see what you think!  I gave you measurements, you have no excuse not to do it now!!! LOL

Motorcycle Birthday Card

I am SO loving this motorcycle stamp. I made this card for my nephew. I don't know if he liked motorcycles but the card screams "masculine!" It's so difficult to find images to make nice masculine cards with. SO I'm running with this card! I think he's going to like it too!

I used Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla and Night of Navy card stock. I also used new "Newsprint" Designer Paper on the second panel/layer. I sponged the edges with Always Artichoke.

On the motorcycle I colored in a few parts using Night of Navy and a blender pen. I also used the Color Spritzer Tool to make the Night of Navy splatter marks on the front of the card. It only takes a few poofs on it and your card is splattered. If you have never used one you should practice on scrap paper first to get the feel of it. Keep a nice distance from your work too helps. And how hard and quick you squeeze the bulb gives you different effects. That is why you should play with it first. It's a lot of fun once you know what you are doing!

The "happy birthday" is from the "Teeny Tiny Wishes" set. I LOVE that set because every word/phrase in it fits in the Word Window Punch. And what you punch out fits on top of the "Modern Label" punch. It gives a fancy look to the card.

I am happy with the way the card turned out but mostly I like the way it opens. It's SO different. I don't often find cards that I really like the unusual way they open but this one is GREAT!!

The measurements for this card are as follows:

The base of the card, the Night of Navy is cut 4-1/4" x 9" and scored at 3-1/2". The Always Artichoke piece is cut 9-3/4" x 3-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4". And you decorate as desired. Refer to the photo for taping. The long pieces get taped together and the smaller pieces get folded in the front, one over the other. It's not as bad as it sounds, really!

Vintage Vogue Birthday Card

No, I still have not put this stamp set away. I just love it and am having a lot of fun with it. It's an extremely versatile set too. It starts out as a "Friend" type set but can be used to make birthday cards, thinking of you cards, sympathy cards and get well cards.

Today I made mine into a birthday card for my sister. And it's obvious I still have not put away the "Well Scripted" set either! I know I've said this before but I just LOVE the font on this set. It's very pretty and elegant at the same time. But it's not too pretty to use on a masculine card! It's just perfect!

For the base of my card I used Basic Gray card stock. On top of that is a piece of Rich Razzleberry cut 4-1/8" x 5-3/4". The flower was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cut 2-1/4" x 2-1/4". The edges were sponged in Rich Razzleberry. That piece was layered on top of a piece of Basic Gray measuring 2-1/2" x 1-1/2".

The Old Olive piece was lightly stamped with the leafy image, allover the card and the edges were sponged in Old Olive as well. That piece measures 3" x 3-1/2". The Basic Gray piece behind it measures 3-1/8" x 3-5/8".

The Rich Razzleberry dotted ribbon was added before the Old Olive piece was taped in place.

I punched out a little Going Gray flower and put in the center of the large flower. I punched out a 1/4" vanilla circle and put it in the center of the little gray flower. After the photo was taken (this is when I am the most critical of my cards... somehow seeing them on the computer I see more things I could have done, should have done or should not have done!) I added a dark pink rhinestone. It is so dark that it actually looks like the Rich Razzleberry color. It really made the card look finished! And fortunately I will be hand delivering this so I won't have to pay the extra postage involved in this one.

Now I need to make one more birthday card, 2 get well cards and one thinking of you card before the end of the month! I am very behind on my cards. UGH!

Anyway, this was a fun and pretty quick card to make.

Simple Yet Sweet Birthday Card

Sue (my upline) on her website displayed the birthday cards she had received. This is a copy of one of them. I thought it was a very sweet card. Simple and quick to make too! I LOVE how Autumn punched the three flowers out on the white card stock and you can see the color behind them. And the brads in the center are a nice touch.

The words are from the Stampin' Up! "Sincere Salutations" set. I have used that set more times then I can count. I've always loved that font and the set contained all the sayings you need!

The colors used here are Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White. The ink is Rich Razzleberry. And the ribbon is Rich Razzleberry as well.

To make this card you will need a half sheet of whisper white card stock folded in half. Cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry card stock 4-1/4" x 3". Cut a piece of white card stock 4" x 2-7/8". I don't know if these are the same measurements Autumn used but these worked for me.

You will also need the Trio Flower punch, 3 silver tone brads and 5 Dimensionals.

Cut your card stock. Punch your flowers. Mine are punched about 7/8" in. Wrap ribbon around the white piece and tape on the back. Stamp words. Set this piece on top of the Rich Razzleberry piece and mark where the brads will go. Punch a hole for each brad using your paper piercing tool. Put the brads on and then tape this piece down on the white card base. Using the Dimensionals set the top piece in place. You are done. That is all there is to this card. How simple, huh? Now I have to go make another one. Good thing I just wrote all the dimensions down! This card is for my sister and I thought I should have one on display here. My stampers like to find simple, quick and cute cards to make. This fits into all three of those categories!

Good Neighbors Masculine Card

I could not believe it when I looked at my day planner and saw that I missed my nephew's birthday. I'm usually good about getting the cards in the mail no more than a few days late if not on time! His birthday was the 13th. OOPS! Extremely late here!

This card didn't turn out the way I wanted it to either. Perhaps if the orientation would have been different it would have worked. I wanted the card to open from the bottom and to measure 4-1/4 wide by 5-1/2" tall. And I wanted three trees to go across the bottom. Well, to make them like I wanted to with the ring around them three would just not work. I could get two in but even numbers don't always look so great. SO I had to work with the one. And I actually liked it. It's very plain and very masculine. No ribbons, buttons, flowers or bows! Actually it's very flat and simple looking. Simple is good!

Here's how I made it:

I used a piece of Whisper Whit card stock for the base of the card
A piece of Sage Shadow printed paper from the Patterns Pack III
A scrap piece of Sage Shadow card stock
A scrap piece of Always Artichoke card stock
A scrap piece of white card stock
"Good Neighbors" stamp set (by Stampin' Up!)
"Well Scripted" stamp set (by Stampin' Up!)
1" Circle Punch
1-1/4" Circle Punch
Black StazOn ink

I cut the patterned paper 5-1/4" x 4" and taped it on top of the white base of the card. Then I cut the Always Artichoke card stock 2-1/4" x 4". The Sage Shadow piece of card stock was cut 2" x 4".

I stamped the tree on a piece of white card stock and then again on a scrap piece of Sage Shadow. The Sage Shadow piece I cut out with a scissors. Just the top part of the tree and I taped it over the stamped tree on the white card stock.

I took the Sage Shadow piece cut 2" x 4" and took the 1" circle punch and punched a hole in it, trying to keep it centered. If you don't get it centered enough and it looks off you can trim it on the paper cutter but remember to trim the Always Artichoke and white piece. Take another piece of scrap Always Artichoke and punch a 1" hole it it. Take the 1-1/4" punch and punch over the 1" hole keeping the punch centered over the 1" circle to get a nice even ring. Glue the ring around the 1" circle you punched in the Sage Shadow piece.

And finally stamp the words you want on the Sage Shadow piece and tape all the layers together. Very quick and very simple. And VERY late!!!

The color is a bit washed out from the flash, the colors are much prettier together in real life.

Sparkle and Shine Bulbs Card

Talk about a quick and simple card to make. I used the new Stampin' Up! "Sparkle and Shine" jumbo wheel. I LOVE wheels. This one was perfect for a quick and simple card.

I used the Embossing Buddy on the Real Red card stock. I didn't want any of that white embossing powder sticking where I didn't want it to. I got a few grains here and there but not too bad. I had an empty cartridge for the wheel so I inked it up with VersaMark. If I had to make a lot of these cards it would be VERY easy to do with the cartridge in the wheel. I then embossed it in white.

I layered the red piece (cut 4" x 3") on top of a piece of white card stock (cut 4-1/8" x 5-3/8").

I stamped the "Christmas Greeting" on using Black ink. The words came from the Stampin' Up! "Grateful Greetings" set.

Before I taped the white layer on I added the ribbon and tied a knot on. When I add my ribbon like this I cut a piece about 6" long and I tape the edges on the back. Then I slip a piece of ribbon on and tie it in a knot. Doing the ribbon this way allows it to lay nicer and it's not as bulky because there is only one knot in it. Plus it allows you to slide the knot where you want it. I LOVE that part the most!!!

If you need a quick Christmas card, this is the way to go!

Just Beachy Dad!!

I thought this Stampin' Up! "Just Beachy" set would work great for a "Father's Day card or just a masculine card. And of course I used one of my favorite layouts for this. I LOVE this layout because I can use the smaller stamps that can at times be the most difficult to work with. There are lots of layout you can use for the smaller stamps too but this one is my favorite!!! I may have to come up with a new favorite layout that used the smaller stamps!!! I don't want to burn myself out on this one. Though I have used it LOTS of times and I still head back to it whenever I am using a small image.

I just LOVE the fish from this set. This set has LOTS of fun images. I'm hoping to play with it a bit this weekend. I have a million things to do and I'm hoping that I can get a lot of them done so I have time to play!!

The measurements for this card are as follows starting from the very top layer and going the bottom:
2-7/8" x 4" Ballet Blue
3" x 4-1/8" Certainly Celery
The holes are punched and the image is attached. Then the ribbon is tied. This piece is mounted on the next layer with Dimensionals.
4-5/8" x 3-1/2" Decorative paper (this paper is something I made myself on the computer)
4-3/4" x 3-5/8" Ballet Blue
And all this is set on a folded half sheet of Certainly Celery card stock.

Now keep these measurements so you can make LOTS of cards with your smaller image stamps!!

Oh and I used my homemade glue dots to stick the layers together!!!

Boho & Butterflies

Ok, it's not butterflies, it's butterfly but it didn't sound right. I used the stamp with the three flowers on it from the "One of a Kind" set and the butterfly from "Garden Whimsy."

This is a VERY quick and simple card to make. I used a half sheet of Regal Rose and folded it in half. I cut a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock 5-3/8" x 4-1/8" The white piece is cut 5-1/4" x 4".

I inked up the flowers and stamped off once. For those of you who don't know what the term "stamping off" means, it's where you ink up your stamp and then stamp the image on scrap paper. Then take the stamp and stamp on your card stock, don't re-ink it, just stamp. You can usually get two to three viable images after stamping off. Stamping off keeps the images light, soft and subtle. After stamping off I stamped the image two more times on the card stock. I wanted some very faint flowers in the background, giving it an "airy" look.

For the butterfly I inked up the stamp with Regal Rose and stamped the image on a scrap piece white card stock, I inked it up again and stamped another one. I inked up the stamp one more time but this time I used the Chocolate Chip marker and colored over the rose on the body part of it. I stamped the image on my white card stock where I wanted the butterfly to be. Then I cut out one of the other images I stamped. I cut off the body part and just cut the wings only, including the white dotted line area. Then the next one I didn't include the white dotted area. After I cut the second one out I took the Chocolate Chip marker and ran it around the edge just to give it an outline. I used dimensionals to put the first one I cut out on top of the butterfly on the white and flowered card stock. Then I took the outlined one and just glued it in place over the top of the wings I just put on with the dimensionals.

The words are from the "Hugs & Wishes" set and I stamped them in Chocolate Chip ink.

I added some Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon and tied a bow on and that's all there is to this card. Pretty simple stuff. The cutting out of the butterfly was the most time consuming part of it and it really didn't take that long to do. I think I would have liked the 5/8" wide Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon but I don't have any yet. It's on my wish list!!!!

Wednesday Sketch Challenge at SplitCoastStampers

And once again the Wednesday Sketch Challenge at SplitCoastStampers snuck up on me. Here is my submission for this layout. I found this layout to be a bit more of a challenge than the ones were the last few weeks. It was fun though. Maybe because I was in the mood for the challenge!!!! LOL I needed a graduation card and this was the perfect challenge to try it out on!!

My stamps are retired, sorry to my fellow demonstrators but there were not long "congratulations" words or a smaller cap that are current. So I figured since I was using retired stamps I might as well continue to walk outside the "current" box and add some non Stampin' Up! paper as well. I had gotten this paper a while back at Michael's. I have a TON of papers from Michael's and JoAnns that I really should use up!

I stamped the hat image on the #3 panel and I used gold embossing powder and stamped with Versa Mark on the Night of Navy and after heating I cut it out. I also used Dimensionals to pop it up a bit off the #4 panel.

The guidelines here in regards to the #4 panel are that they want you to stay as close as possible to the 1-1/2" wide piece.

I did write down the measurements to all of my layers and they are as follows starting from the base of the card to the top final layer:

The Night of Navy is a half sheet folded in half.
Decorative paper: 5-3/8" x 4-1/8"
Night of Navy: 3-1/2" x 2-7/8"
Real Red: 3-3/8" x 2-3/4"
Night of Navy: 1-3/8" x 3-1/8"
Very Vanilla: 1-1/4" x 3"
Night of Navy: 4-3/8" x 1-5/8"
Very Vanilla 4-1/4" x 1-1/2"

On the red piece (panel #2) I used the "Lots of Dots" wheel and my Real Red ink pad. I went from the left corner to the right and filled in the piece that way. Then I turned the card and went from corner to corner on that way.

I sponged all the edges in Night of Navy (except for the red and navy card stock).

After cutting the cap out I added a gold brad to the center and I assembled the card.

It's ok, it would have been a lot better if the background decorative paper would have had smaller caps. But it will due. I'm sure it will be tossed after the money is removed from it!!! LOL

So now it's your turn to give this layout a try! You can view my other Wednesday Sketch Challenges by clicking here.

Don't forget the Blog Candy.

Casing Ruth B!

Ruth B. is a fellow demonstrator that I met via my blog. She lives half way across the country from me. We have corresponded a bit via email and I am fortunate enough to be privy to some of her creations. I did ask her permission a LONG time ago to case some of her fabulous creations. This one here is such a pretty card that I just couldn't resist it. I have waited since January to find time to case this!

I have liked this card since the first time I saw it! It allows you to play with the flowers and beads from the "Pretties" kit.

I colored the flowers blue by using a sponge and the Bashful Blue ink pad and just rubbing it over the flowers. THe flowers pick up the color nicley.

This is basically a simple and quick card to make.

Measurements are pretty simple too. You just take a half sheet of Bashful Blue and fold it in half. The next and only layer is a piece of white card stock cut 5-1/4" x 4". Stamp the image on. Tie the ribbon aroudn the white piece only. Assemble the flowers adding a brad in the middle to hold them together. Add your choice of beads to the pin and attach it to the flower. I used a glue dot to hold the flower in place on the card.

Isn't is just a sweet looking card?

Fun New Layout with Measurements Plus Some Fun (Secret) Blog Candy

I saw a card that Frances at Stamp Owl Studio made and I just had to copy the layout!!! Again this is another great layout to use those smaller stamps with. I'm starting to look at my smaller stamps in a new light after finding this layout. Click here to see the layout that I usually use for smaller stamps. I will continue to use it but when I want something a bit fancier I'll use this layout. Isn't it pretty?

I made this card in less than a half hour too. Using decorative papers speeds up card making!! Here I used the Stampin' Up! Picnic papers.

Here's the measurements on this card starting from the base of the card to the final top layer:

The base part of the card is a half sheet of Old Olive folded in half.
The black layer is 5-1/2" x 3-5/8"
Red apple layer is 5-1/2" x 3-1/2"
Black layer is 5-1/2" x 3"
Green strip layer is 5-1/2" x 2-7/8"
Black square is 2-3/8" x 2-3/8"
Red layer is 2-1/2" x 2-1/2"
Scallop, 1-3/8" and 1-1/4" punches are used here.

You will also need:
a couple feet of 5/8" wide red grosgrain ribbon.
a couple of Earth Elements Olive brads
and a stamp (the apple from "Tart & Tangy) was used here.

Ok, I found out more information about this layout. Each week at SplitCoastStampers (on Sunday) there is the Featured Stamper CASE (Copy And Study Everything). You are invited to go to the featured stamper's gallery and your challenge is to case something they made but you need to change at least two things plus it can not be a case of a sketch challenge. It must be something that is an original layout of the featured stamper. I was not aware of this until I saw this same layout on another blog and then that little bright light went on over my head. I was shocked to see that it was still functioning!!! LOL So to give the credits due to where they belong. The featured stamper is Pickletree, here is her gallery and here you can find her blog . And now I need to enter my design in the FS59 gallery on SplitCoastStampers That was a fun card to make. I may be paying a bit more attention to the Sunday Featured Stamper CASE from now on.

I can't wait to try this layout again!! Click here to view a few other cards that I have linked here that include the measurements. I know there are more on this blog but I forgot to link them to the label. If you find them please let me know so I can link them. Just copy the link at the top of the page you are viewing the untagged card with measurements on and leave it on this post. Then email me with your snail mail address and I'll send you something fun!!! This offer is on a first come first serve basis. Duplicate links will not be accepted.

Ok, this is my 700th post. On Thursday I will be offering more blog candy!!! So be sure to check back.

Wednesday Sketch Challenge at SplitCoastStampers

I can not believe how fast these Wednesday's sneak up on me!!! The Sketch Challenge at SplitCoastStampers this week was very fun. I needed a masculine birthday card so I thought I'd combine the two!!!

The stamp is from PSX. I stamped the image on watercolor paper and added some fun colors with a blender pen and markers.

I used the bubble Cuddlebug folder and I sponged the edges.

I didn't feel the card could support a bow since it was suppose to be masculine. So I thought a knot would work fine and it did. That area just needed something and the knot took care of it.

I also felt the top part appeared to be a bit blank too so I added 3 black buttons and it just seemed to complete the card.

The measurements given for this card from SplitCoastStampers are as follows beginning with the base of the card and working the way to the final layer.

Black card stock 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" folded in half

Very Vanilla 5-1/4" x 4" (textured and edges sponged)

Black 5-1/2" x 3-1/8"

Almost Amethyst 5-1/2" x 3"

The three pieces are on a layer of black 5-1/2" x 2-1/2"

The three pieces are 1-1/4", 1-7/8", 1-7/8" and all are 2-1/2" high

Small Black layer 2-1/8" x 1-7/8"

Watercolor paper 2" x 1-3/4"

If you have time give the sketch challenge a try. Give your creativity a chance to bloom!!

A Touch of Silk

I have not used Perfect Plum and Pale Plum card stock in a VERY long time. I was looking at the flowers in my "Pretties Kit" and was wondering what I could do with the very tiny ones. I sponged a little Pale Plum ink on it and let it dry. Now I had some Pale Plum little flowers. I was looking at a few of the stamp sets I still had sitting on my worktable because I was too lazy to put them away!!! And I saw the "Embrace Life" set. I thought I would just put the flowers over the small stamped flower images on one of the images. Then I thought I'd use the leaf one and add flowers to it. The flowers were too big so I folded them in half. It was still too big so I cut them in half and then folded that half in half. I glued them together with Tacky glue. My bottle of Tacky glue is SO old the glue is SO thick it holds instantly!!! It's got about 2 more weeks left to it and it will be solid!!! LOL

I stamped the leaf image and colored in the leaves with Sage Shadow. Then I glued the flower halves in the crooks of the leaves. I thought the vanilla background was too bright so I lightly sponged it and I also sponged the edges. I added a layer of Perfect Plum and used Dimensionals to adhere it to the card.

I used the butterfly from the "Priceless" set. I stamped two of them on vellum using Very Vanilla pigment ink and clear embossing powder. I cut them both out and glued the center of the top one on top of the other one.

The main background piece was done using Pale Plum and the "En Francais" stamp and Pale Plum ink. I sponged the edges there too.

Here's the measurements for this card:
the main card is an 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" piece of Perfect Plum card stock folded in half
Very Vanilla cut 5-3/8" x 4-1/8"
Pale Plum cut 5-1/4" x 4"

The layer with the ribbon is:
Perfect Plum cut 3-3/4" x 2-1/2"
Pale Plum cut 3-5/8" x 2-3/8"

The stamped layer:
Perfect Plum cut 3-7/8" x 2-1/8"
Very Vanilla cut 3-3/4" x 2"

I like the layout of this card. I will be using it again. It works great for images of this size.

This card works well for an Easter Card, Birthday, Mother's Day, Thinking of You, Get well and even sympathy card.

Handmade Update!

I was asked by one of my readers, DaisyDaze for the "recipe" for the "Handmade Designer Paper" card I posted last night.

You will need a half sheet of Soft Sky card stock, folded in half. On top of that you will attach a piece of white card stock 3-1/4" x 5-1/2". You can stamp your wording on before or after you affix it. I usually do it before in the event I get it crooked, I drop the stamp touch it to the paper when trying to line it up. Anything can happen when you stamp!!! It usually does happen to me!!! LOL For this particular card I would wait because you need to wrap ribbon around the card stock before taping it all in place. Next you will stamp the "Floral" background image on a piece of white card stock measuring 3" x 5-1/2" using the Soft Sky ink pad. Let it dry for a minute, it dries pretty fast. Ink up your "Sanded" background stamp and stamp the image on the backside of the Floral one. Now I'm not sure what she did but here is how I would CASE it. I would affix the left side of the Handmade Designer Paper to the top of the white piece. Line it up so it's even. You will eye were you want the fold to start. On this card it starts one inch from the left side and the top right side is about one inch also. The fold is taped in place. Two flowers are punched out, one in Soft Sky and one in white. They are taped in place and a button added to the center. I use Crystal Effects to affix my buttons. Tie the ribbon around the two layers and set them in place. It's basically a pretty simple card to make and it's SO elegant looking.

DaisyDaze, your 110# card stock will work just fine. It may be just a little more difficult to fold but a bone folder should aid you in getting a nice sharp and flat crease.

Have fun making this card!
