Flower Fest Wednesday Sketch Challenge

This weeks sketch challenge was a fun one.  I really liked this layout.  I was ok with it until I colored in that 3-a spot with the Wild Wasabi.  The white was too drab and the Wasabi was a bit too much.  UGH!!  Other than that one spot I like the card.  And I REALLY like the sketch.  I'll have to play with this one and see if  I can't come up with something better.
I did print out a piece of the new "Cheerful Treat" decorative paper.  It is one of the items you can pick from in the Hostess section of the new catalog.  It was such a great deal and it has fun papers too!

The flowers, leaves and butterfly are from the "Flower Fest" set.  I have used that set a lot and am still not tired of it.

The white background was textured using the "Lattice" embossing folder.  It added a nice touch to that area.

Like I said, it was a fun card to make but I would have done something different with that one panel. But what I don't know.  Any suggestions??

Summer Splendor Orchids

I just downloaded one of the newer digi images from Stampin' Up! I saw a card made with one of the images from this download and I knew I had to take a look at it. And after looking I knew I had to buy it!!! One thing I REALLY like about these downloads is, when I purchase them I can download them right away and start using them! And that is exactly what I did!

There are a few other flowers in the download that I like but this one was the one I printed out. I imported the image in my graphic software, got the image the size I needed and printed it out. When I print my own digi papers I always print on either 28 or 30 pound paper. You really want to print on nicer paper than regular copier paper. And I did set my printer to high quality too. I wanted the best image possible and that is what I got! Aren't they pretty? Click on the image for a closer view.

The image here is called Orchids. After I printed it out I cut it to size and then layered it on top of a trimmed piece of Night of Navy card stock. I taped the layers to a piece of white cut in half and that half I folded in half.

I used black StazOn to stamp the words. And the words are from one of my favorite sets, "Sincere Salutations." I have used that set SO much I'm surprised the wood doesn't show wear marks!!! I couldn't decide what words I wanted on the card so I ended up making a set of four cards and used four different words. It makes a nice gift set and it's cards you would use up in the course of a few months too!

During the month I will make a some more cards from the other images in that download. I LOVE them all! Making cards like this is still fun because you still get to stamp and you get to make quick cards!!! The only thing I don't like about it is when I make a mistake stamping. It's not easy to cover it up. A layer on top of your error may work but most of the time I end up reprinting. And I wonder why I go through printer ink so fast!!!

Sweet Pea Digital Download

I downloaded the Stampin' Up! "Sweet Pea" package. I just LOVED all the papers in it and the flowers. It was one of those downloads I just HAD to have. So I downloaded it and it sat in a folder on my computer. NOT a good place for it. What good is it if it just sits there?

I started looking at each of the images in the package and was more thrilled with each one I opened. I had to print out a few just to see if they were as pretty on paper as they were on the screen. I found that 30# copier paper worked best for the printing. It made it look and feel more like decorative paper. It wasn't too thick like card stock would be, it was just right.

SO those printouts sat on my worktable for a few days. I'd look at them as I uncovered them a few times from the messes I make on my table. One end of the paper had a bend in it. Fortunately that part of the paper wasn't printed on and it did make me realize I should use the paper before it gets ruined.

I thought I would make a birthday card for my niece. It's such a pretty card, isn't it? Don't you just LOVE all of those butterflies? And this card has very little stamping on it too. I had thought about just stamping the words on without any layering but I thought it could use a little something in that bottom corner.

Actually this card doesn't have any stamping on it. The words were done on my computer. I had printed out a full page of them when I originally made it and I just punch from the page when I need one. Click on the card to get a closer view of it.

The image area printed out in an 8" x 8" square on my paper. It was perfect enough for a card plus some extra for layering or for another project. And you know me, I don't throw anything away so it will be used for another project or card!

These downloads aren't just for scrapbooking, you can use them for cards and other projects as well. And it's also nice that when you need one or a dozen you can just print them off and play right away! One of these days I will try these on scrapbooking stuff but for now I'm still working on cards and projects. I do very little scrapbooking but I have things lined up and more organized to start doing it soon.

Anyway, this was a fun and such a pretty card to make. Oh and it was SUPER quick too! And if you look at it you can see that the card could be used for other occasions/events other than a birthday.
