Fast Falling Leaves

The title isn't too far off here either. This card went together so fast I almost felt guilty! I don't recall making a card so quickly in a very long time and have it be a card I actually like too!

This card is very simple and clean looking. Something I like in a card. On and it has a layer to it to. And we ALL know how much I LOVE doing cards with layers!!! I would think, for me the greatest challenge in a card would be to make one that is square (those are just SO difficult) and to make one with no layers. I panic at the very thought!!! And my mind goes instantly blank for an idea or theme! LOL There was one time that the Wednesday SplitCoast sketch challenge was a square card and I wasn't going to participate. But as the day went on I decided to challenge myself. Now that was a tough day for me!!! LOL I do shy away from the non-traditional size cards.

Anyway, this one is not non-traditional but it is layer limited!!! And the main thing here is that even with limited layers, it worked!!

It's a sweet looking card. I do like how neat and clean it looks. And with the other assortment of leaves in this set you could easily change this into a masculine card. There are three other leaves in the Stampin' Up! "Falling Leaves" set that do not have words on the leaves, just other little designs. Oh and other than being a very quick card the other nice thing about this card is it won't cost you any extra postage to mail it!!!

Wednesday Sketch Challenge

Here is the card I made for this weeks Sketch Challenge over at SplitCoastStampers. Each week there is such a fun and new challenge awaiting! I was thrilled I had time to play along again! I SO look forward to these sketches each week.

After seeing my card on the computer I feel it needs a bit more finesse. Not sure what but it's kind of blah. Oh well, they all can't be winners now can they?

The pumpkins came from the Stampin' Up! "Holiday Blitz" set. I use that set a LOT! I stamped them in Dusty Durango. The leaves were from a little leaf punch I've had for many years. I don't remember where I got it, that's how long I've had it. The decorative paper is from Archivers. And the base of the card is Chocolate Chip and the layer behind the leaf paper is Dusty Durango. I added a piece of ribbon behind the three squares in the front but you can hardly see it.

I'm not thrilled with my card and I may play with this sketch later in the week. I have some fun weekend projects for you starting tomorrow so be sure to check back!!

Season of Frienship Buffet Card

Ok, I'm sure some of you are asking what a "Card Buffet" is. It's kind of like a Stamp-a-Stack but better! Well, I think it's better!! Every thing is cut for you (I LOVE that!). The cut card stock and everything you need to make the card is in a tote. The table the totes were on was FULL! You pick the card you want to make and take the tote to your table and put it together. Now here is the fun part. If you REALLY love that card you can have a second helping, or third or even a fourth!!! You can make as many of that card as you like and you only pay for the cards you make! How cool is that. What I especially liked about it (other than all the fun cards there were to make) was that you took the tote back to your space. You didn't have to hop from table to table. You could leave your tape and bottled water in one spot and not have to remember to pick things up and move them to the next space. You had your own space the whole time you were stamping.

I didn't make duplicate cards, I just made one of everything!!! It was such a fun time and Sue sure knows how to put on a good spread!!!! I LOVED every minute I was there. The cards were nothing more than FABULOUS! Most of them were quick to make too! And I didn't feel stressed when I sat down to make the card. It just seemed easier to do the cards when you aren't hopping from space to space. It may just be me but I liked stamping the cards like that SO much more than a Shoebox Swap or a Stamp-a-Stack.

The images here are from the Stampin' Up! "Season of Friendship" set. There is suppose to be some wording in the piece that was cut using the Word Window punch. I opted not to add any words at the time because I wasn't sure what I was going to use the card for. At most of these events I tend to not use the wording so I can add them at home when I need them for whatever occasion I need that goes with the card.

Isn't this card just a fun one? I had a great time making it. Oh and I didn't mess up any of the buffet cards either! Must have been from the no stress feeling I had! Don't know for sure but every card I made went smoothly!

Fall Trees!

I just love the colors of the trees in the fall. Here in Minnesota where I live the trees are all done changing colors and in our very own yard the trees have lost all of their leave (finally). Boy did that rake get a workout this year!!! My favorite tree in the yard is the black walnut one. It starts losing it's leaves in September and they are small enough that they just blow away!! I LOVE that tree!!! And I don't feel guilty about the leaves blowing away into other people's yards, I have no control over that. But somehow it's some type of natures' "fair " exchange. We get some Jurassic Park leaves in our yard. I have no idea who has a tree with leaves that big!

Anyway on to my card. I wanted to make a fall card using the Stampin' Up! "Season of Friendship" set.

For this card I used Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, More Mustard and Close to Cocoa inks. I randomly stamped them in the trees and on the ground. The little pumpkin is from the "Holiday Blitz" set. I just love that set, it's SO versatile. I used a left over oval I had done from the candies in my post from yesterday. I set it up on Dimensionals to give it some depth. And I just layered it on top of a piece of Old Olive card stock. Just simple, no fancy folds, buttons, bows or other embellishments. My goal was to have the card carry itself with the colors alone. It's a perfect card for the times you have limited supplies!!!

I'm also including on this post a picture I took of some trees from the top of Enger Tower in Duluth, Minnesota. This was taken in the first week of October. We were told the trees had already peaked up there. We didn't think so. Isn't it beautiful??? I would love to live there in the fall among the beautiful colors. And spring and summer wouldn't be too bad either because of the cool air lake effect. Not many have air conditioners up there. But winter. Now don't get me wrong. I LOVE winter I just don't think I would love it up there driving on all those hills!!! I bet to be an owner of a break shop would be the ideal business to have up there!!! LOL

I was wondering if it is too early to do Christmas "stuff?" But then I'm thinking that it might now be. If some of you want to make things for gifts for friends, family, teachers, etc. you would want to get started on them soon and you'd want to get the supplies while they are still in the stores, right?? That is how I was thinking about that issue. SO you might want to prepare yourself for some Christmas gift giving ideas that will be coming.

Harvest Time!

I was thinking about making a Thanksgiving card but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I was thinking maybe you were sick of looking at Halloween and Snowman cards.
I started looking at my sets and at some samples in the Stampin' Up! catalog and I wasn't getting anywhere. I pulled out the Autumn Harvest set and just looked at it for a few minutes. I had to go to my cupboard for a stamping supply and I saw the webbing spray. Oh my, what fun that stuff is! I just LOVE it. It isn't just for Halloween ya know!!! SO I cut a piece of white and vanilla card stock into 4 pieces each and took them out in the garage to spray them. Normally I would do it outside but it was after midnight and I was in my PJ's. We have sensor lights and I REALLY didn't want the neighbors (if they were up) or any passing traffic to see me out there like that!!! NOT a pretty picture! Please don't do the visual on that, I can't afford therapy for you!!! LOL

I used Handsome Hunter for the main part of the card. I used the new "Sanded" background stamp by Stampin' Up! I opted for the vanilla card stock. It seemed to have a more mellow look with the Handsome Hunter.

I stamped the pumpkins on the watercolor paper using Black Staz-on. Again I can not emphasize enough about the Staz-on and blender pens. The pens just remove the regular black ink and you have a mess. Staz-on does what it says, it stays on!

I cut my watercolor the size I wanted for the space there and then I stamped the large pumpkin in the back first. For the other two I stamped them on a separate piece of watercolor paper and cut them out after coloring them. Same for the leaves. Masking on watercolor paper doesn't work as well as with regular card stock. Plus this way I got to place them exactly where I wanted them. I added a piece of Pumpkin Pie ribbon behind the pumpkins and I tied a bow on. I added brads to the one layer on the pumpkins. I just loved the colors of this card. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Asking a question in the comments doesn't work. It's not set up for me to be able to reply to you. It's best to email them. And to view the photo closer, just click on it. This works for all the photos on this blog.
