Lights Aglow, Christmas Card, Split Circle Technique, Stampin' Up! 2022 Fall Mini Catalog

Today's card was a lot of fun to make. I have been having fun with the "Split Circle" technique. I found a card on Pinterest and I thought it would be fun to use the Designer Series Paper (DSP) that I have to make it into a Christmas card. You can see the original card here

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock. This card opens on the bottom and the fold is on the top. I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic White card stock, I textured it using the snowflake die in the "Wintery 3D" embossing folder set. I glued this piece to the front of the card.

Then I die cut the circles using paper from the "Lights Aglow" 6" x 6" stack. There's some mighty pretty papers in that stack. One side they are embossed with gold and the backsides are not but are just as pretty. I used the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th largest stitched circles in the "Stylish Shapes" die set. And I cut each circle in half. You need to cut two large and two small of each color and the middle one is the same for the top and bottom piece.

Next the circles were taped together and glued in place on the front of the card.

I die cut a couple of gold foil leaves using the die from the "Forever Fern" set. I glued then in place on top of the line of the light green half-circle.

The words are from my computer. I used the Lucinda Handwriting font and the RGB code for the Evening Evergreen color 73R 90G 83B.  I printed them out and cut them 1/2" x 3-7/8".  I should have set the strip on the card using Dimensionals instead of gluing it in place.  It could stand a bit of depth.  But all in all I like it and I think I would make this card again. I may make a few for Christmas cards this year. They don't take a lot of DSP to do it.

Thank you SO very much for taking your time to stop by and see today's Christmas Card,
Wanda

Snowflake Sentiments, Hearts Come Home, Peek a Boo Flip Card Technique

I spent some time in my workroom trying to find a good Peek a Boo card.  I thought found one and when put it together I could see the edge of the one piece through the window.  Totally NOT acceptable, so I had to search again.  This was the second one I found. The orientation was different than the other card plus this one had 3 pieces while the other one had 2.  But this one, when closed, didn't show that edge.  SO I ran with this one.

I found the instructions on You Tube.  You can view them here.  They are very easy to follow. There's just one important thing you need to know.  Looking at the top of my card, notice that there isn't as much distance between the top as there is on the side of the circle?  That is where you get in trouble with that paper edge showing. You need to move your punch over just enough or you catch that edge.  The instructions show to turn the piece over, that is where I liked up my punch with the edge and I made my circle.  Other than that, the rest of the card was pretty easy to do.  Well, that part was easy to do but when I made my first one, I had my circle on the side too close and I saw the edge of the card stock. It was me, not the instructions.

After finishing it, I thought it looked pretty cool until I realized that the wording should have been something more Santa like because of his image in the opening.  But it is what it is and it's done!!!  Chalk it up to experience and I know now how to make another one without any issues, right?

A Sheltering Tree Magic Card Technique

Today I wanted to try a larger Magic card.  I still need a little practice on how to get all of the details within the window and also all of it showing at the bottom once it's pulled out.

I love using the "Sheltering Tree" set and it was fun to play with the Pirouette Pink ink, giving it that spring look!  As I look out the window at our snow cover!  No grass showing anymore!  Winter is here and the cold weather is on it's way!  I'm hunkering down and hopefully will be able to be in my workroom to play with stamps!!!  That's the plan anyway!

There's lots of different ways to make Magic cards.  I made one a couple of days ago.  You can check it out here.

They are pretty easy to make.  A little tricky when it comes to making sure the image is lined up with the image on the acetate.  If they are not lined up then the "Magic" is ruined!  So what I did on this one was, I lined them up perfectly.  Then I used Scotch tape and taped the pieces together in the middle (on the top)  The punched circle hid the tape.  DUH, why didn't I think of that when I made the one the other day?  As long as you can hide the tape, it doesn't matter.  Plus it holds the pieces together better.  I did trim a little of the acetate on the top and one side. You can't tell. Like I said, I just need practice getting the images moved up or down more so they are more visible!  But not today.

I don't mind making these, but they do take a little while to do.  I don't like using the Stamp a ma jig.  I don't know why, it's a very helpful and useful tool, but I just don't like using it.

This card could use a little more finesse on the front. Some words or flowers punched out perhaps.  It does need something!

A Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder Birthday Tunnel Card

Terri is such a wonderful and giving person.  She gave me one of the cards she brought with to, I want to say convention but I'm thinking it may have been to Founder's Circle. She textured not only the outside, but the inside as well.  These are simple cards to make but a bit of time goes into them, especially when you are texturing them as much as Terri did.

The inside has a cute reindeer paper clip on the bottom of the oval opening.  It's such a fun card.
The technique used here is called the "Tunnel Card" technique and it can be found here.  They are easy to make and don't take a lot of time unless you are doing a lot of extra embellishing on them. What's nice about this technique is, you can make a super quick and impressive card or you can spend some time texturing and embellishing and still have an impressive card.  I have done both.  It all depends on how soon I need the card!!!  Oh, and how many I am making!!

I don't remember how many cards Terri said she made but I do know it was a lot.  She came back with a bunch of new samples to share with everyone.  That is the fun thing about swaps, you make a certain number of one card design and you come home with that many different new cards to share, hoard, or actually use!!  Imagine that, using a card!!  I make cards and save them as samples for my stampers and when I need a card, I feel I have to make a fresh one!!!  Like they go stale!! LOL  I can't figure me out!!! LOL  I just love to stamp and I find making cards a relaxing stress reliever for me!! And if it means I have a thousand cards in my stash, well, then I have a thousand cards in my stash and I have to make a fresh one when I need one!!!  The funny thing about all of this is, all of the cards I make and receive, I post here. Don't you think I could just look for it on my blog?  Imagine that? LOL  (oops, I rambled!)

Anyway, now find the link above and follow the simple instructions to make a tunnel card!!

A Peaceful Pines and Petite Pairs Christmas Card using the Tunnel Card Technique

Today I'm going to share with you a card that I received in the September Technique swap.  This one was made by my sister Denise.  This is the "Tunnel Card" Technique.  You can find the directions on how to make your own here.  They are very easy to make, fun and unique too!

This card was made using the "Peaceful Pines" stamp set.  The colors used here are Pacific Point, Soft Sky, and Lost Lagoon.

The words are from the "Petite Pairs" set.

The background is textured using an embossing folder.

There's not much more I can say about this card, they are fun and easy to make.

Have a look at the instructions and give it a try yourself!

Pop-up Technique Birthday Card

Today I'm going to share with you a card I received in the latest swap I participated in.  The technique used here is the Pop-up card technique.  It's a very fun technique.  It does have several pieces to it but it's SO worth it.  You can decorate the front and be done or you can use the back to write your sentiment.  It folds down to 5-1/2" x 4-1/4".  Terri taught this technique at the August Technique Tuesday night.

This one has very little stamping on it.  The decorative paper gives this card it's color and "fun!"

You can find the instructions for this technique here.

They are fun to do because they are SO different than your average card.  Not that there is anything wrong with the average card, but it's fun to mix things up now and then and try something new and different, or perhaps just something different.  You need to step out of your box now and then.  I used this technique for the latest swap I attended.  I liked it, but I thought it took more time that I had cared to donate to making swap cards.  I am not sure I would make anymore in the near future. Unless a wonderful stamp set comes along that would do this technique justice!

A For All Things Fall Card and Camouflage Technique

I was cleaning up my worktable (something I don't do often enough) and I ran across a card I had received in Augusts swap. The technique used here is the Camouflage Technique.  It's a very fun one to do but you do need to make sure you have some time to create with it.  The card stock is wet from rubbing alcohol and it does take time to dry.  Though you can speed it up with the heat tool, but that takes time too.  So if you are in a hurry to make a card, this is not the technique you are looking for!

But if you're looking for a fun technique or wanting to try something new, well then this is for you!!!  It is a very easy  technique to do, it just requires a little time.  You can find the instructions here.

This card was made by Nancy at Terri's Technique Tuesday group.  I LOVE the fun fall colors she used.  I don't have this "For All Things" stamp set.  It's a fun one but not in my library!  That's what is fun about swaps too, you get to see other sets up close and personal.

Give this technique a try!

A Flower Shop Pop-up Birthday Card

These pop-up cards are very fun cards to make, and they are not difficult either.  There are a lot of pieces to them but they are SO worth it.  This is the card that Terri had the gals make for her August Technique Tuesday class.

To make this, you score a 4-1/4" x 11" piece of card stock at 1/2, 2, 4 and 5-1/2". Decorate the 5-1/2 x 4-1/4" section of the card base (front and back).  The front of this card has the Hardwood image on it  and the back has flowers and words (bottom photo).

Add Sticky Strip to the 1/2" section - fold piece up (at 5-1/2" score line) with the 1/2" piece folded under, and adhere it to the front of the card.  Folding that piece helps you see where that 1/2" piece will be attached, plus it gets that piece exactly where it needs to be to be square.

Score a 5-1/2" x 3" piece of card stock at 1/2" and 2".  Decorate the bottom panel as desired.  Add Sticky Strip to the front side of the 1/2" piece and to the bottom back side of the opposite panel.  Stick the bottom panel to the bottom of the card base and the 1/2" piece to the front of the card.  This will form your pop up. Now embellish the rest of the card as desired.

It is very simple and fun to do!

A Traveler Masculine Card and Camouflage Technique

Okay, Christmas Week is over.  It started out rough.  I had a very tough time using that "Embellished Ornaments" set. But I was able to finish out the week using the fun "Sparkly Season" set.

This card was one from our Tuesday Technique night swap and it was made by Tanya.  Technique night is coming up and I need to get my card made for it.

I like how Tanya used blues for the camo instead of the usual greens and browns like most of us did!!!  It's another great masculine card.  If you'd like to know how to do this technique, just click here.

I had a great time playing with this technique.  I want to give it a try with Real Red, Garden Green and try gold embossing.  I want it to have a Christmas look.  Yup, I'm still thinking Christmas, even after a whole week of it!! LOL

Tunnel Card Technique Birthday Card

Today's technique comes to you from Terri's Technique Tuesday group.  This was a super fun technique to do.  I was able to play along and had a great time!!

To do this technique you will use two 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" sheets of card stock.  The "window" piece is scored at 2-1/8", 4-1/4" and 6-3/8".  Next you will need to use a Thinlit for the window piece.  The 3" x 4" oval was used on this card .  The oval was centered over the center fold of the inside piece.  Before folding the outer piece, stamp your words or image.  Color it if necessary and then you can fold the card in half.  Tape only hte left and right panel of the window piece to the base piece.  Now you can decorate the front as you wish.

This is a very simple technique.  I LOVE the card that Terri came up with.  We embossed the butterflies on the inside piece.  It was folded in half and then embossed through both thicknesses.  As for the front, that piece was cut 4" x 5-1/4" and embossed almost all the way to the top.  A ribbon was tied on and then the butterfly with rhinestones on it was set in place with a piece of Dimensional. Did you notice the butterfly on the inside?  We had to be careful where we put it so it wouldn't stick out the right side of the card when the card was closed.

Wouldn't this make a lovely wedding card?

There, now you have it!  Make yourself a Tunnel Card

Quarter Fold Technique Page Card

Today I have a fun technique card for you.  It's a super simple one too!  This was done at Terri's super fun technique night she has for her downline.  It's called Quarter Fold Card.

You take a piece of card stock cut 4-1/4" x 11" and score it at 2-3/4" and 8-1/4".  Then you take the second piece of card stock that is cut 5-1/2" x 8-1/2".  Score that one at 2-1/8" and 6-3/8".  Adhere the two pieces together forming a cross.  The longer piece of card stock goes on the back.  Fold the flaps in as you would doing a flap over flap on a cardboard box.
Decorate the card stock as desired.    Here a belly band was made to help hold the card shut. Score the fold lines sharply and you can get by without the belly band.  Though the belly band does add some more fun to the card.  You can add words as shown here or you can tack on flowers, or even both!  It's a fun card and there's lots of ways to decorate it.

A Work of Art and Flower Shop YoYo Spinner Card

I guess I ended up using more stamp sets here than I listed.  The Pear Pizzazz background image is from the Work of Art set.  The Flowering Flourishes image was stamped using black Memento ink.  The flower is from the Flower Shop set and was stamped using Melon Mambo ink.  The center of the flower was stamped using Daffodil Delight ink and punched out with a 1" circle punch. And the words are from the Wetlands set.  There, I think that covered all of the stamp sets used here.

This was a fun card to make.  At first I struggled but once it dawned on me not to let the thread go between the two pieces of acetate then it all went well.

The instructions can be found at Split Coast Stampers.  There are step by step instructions and a video tutorial as well.  I prefer the step by step ones because my hands are usually full of something and I don't want to be touching my keyboard to pause a video.  I know, I could just wipe off my hands but sometimes I have to rewind and try it more than one time.  So that is why I'm all for step by step (illustrated) instructions!!!

I did change my piece a little too.  I didn't use buttons for the pull cord.  I used two pearl halves and stuck them together with mini glue dots.

I liked making this card and I can see myself making another one in the future!!!!  Head on over to Split Coast Stampers and play along!!  It's always fun to learn a new technique!!

Painted Petals Faux Silk Stamping Technique

There are several versions of the Faux Silk technique out there.  I had learned this one at Terri's Tuesday Technique night a couple of months ago.  I had the card sitting on my worktable but I had never posted it.  So today I thought I would share this simple technique with you.

First you take a piece of tissue paper and stamp your image on it. Make sure the ink is dry.  Next crumple the tissue paper up, uncrumple it and crumple it up again.  Uncrumple it one more time and set it aside.

Take a piece of Whisper White card stock and run your glue stick all over, covering the whole piece.  Lay your stamped tissue paper on top and begin to pat it in place starting from the center and working your way out.  Allow the crinkles to remain in the tissue paper.  Do not try to smooth them out.  You may need to trim up the edges a bit.

Decorate and layer as desired.  And that's all there is to it!!! So simple and very quick.  And isn't it pretty?

Petite Petals Lattice Technique

Today I'm going to share with you a card that Terri had made with her downline at the last Technique Tuesday.  I had shared this technique with her after I had discovered it on the net and I felt honored that she shared it with her group!

It's a very fun and easy technique to do too.  You can play with the lattice to give it different looks.  I like that about it, it's not set in stone!

This card was decorated with the Petite Petals set.  It's such an adorable set.  I have used it a lot lately and have had so much fun with it.  I love the size of these flowers.  They appear to be climbing a trellis.  You can find the link to my post here and from there you can find a video to watch on how to do this yourself!!  It's very easy and you will be in awe at how it goes together!

A Flower Shop Birthday And Washi Tape Technique

Today's card was made by Terri.  It was one of her cards she made at the monthly Technique Tuesday event she has for her downline.  I shared this technique with her a while back and she shared it with the group.  It's just another fun way to use your Washi Tape.

The flower is from the Flower Shop set and the Washi Tape is covering the button.  It's also a great way to make colored buttons to go with your projects!!!  It's quick, easy and fun too!

The paper doily was sponged using the Daffodil Delight ink pad.  I like how it allowed the center word part to stand out more.  How simple.  It's one of my "duh" moments!  I could have thought of that (but I didn't).  I have a LOT of those moments!!! LOL

It's a pretty easy card to put together too.  The flower was set in place using Dimensionals and the petals were curled a bit before it was set in place.  Cute and sweet!!!

I tried to find the technique page where I explained how this was done.  But it's simple enough.  You just take the Washi Tape and cover the top of your button with it and set your button in place with glue dots or Dimensionals.  Snail tape will not hold!!!  Come to think of it, maybe I didn't do a technique page on it.  I think I may have just made some buttons for Terri!!!  It was a while ago and a lot has happened since then!!!  But now you know how to do it!

Perfectly Penned and the Chevron Technique

The Chevron technique is a very fun and easy technique to do.  I found it here on YouTube.  There's lots of them out there but it was the black and white card that peeked my interest.  I LOVE black and white cards.

The instructions had you cut 5 pieces of the decorative paper 2" x 1".  You folded three of the strips one direction and the other two in the other direction.  This means you take a strip and fold the right corner over to the left side forming a 45 degree angle.  Turn the strip and repeat the same thing on the other end.  Turn the strip, not flip it over.  Both folds are on the same side.  You do this for 3 strips.  The other two strips are done the opposite.  You take the left corner and bring it to the right side forming 45 degree angle and you repeat it for the other end of the strip.  You need 2 of these folds.  Then you just put the strips together.

To add more layers to your card you will need to shorten the length of the strips just a hair or however much you want.  The more you trim the less surface they will cover when you are done folding them.

Fun, isn't it?  And they don't take that long to make either!  I want to make some of these cards using the new Sale-a-Brations paper!

Lovely as a Tree Textured Waxed Paper Technique

Today I have a fun technique to share with you.  It's called the "Textured Waxed Paper" technique.

It's a very simple technique to do too.  It's often done using glossy card stock but Stampin' Up! has retired the glossy card stock so this one is done using the shimmery white card stock.

First you take a piece of waxed paper and place it inside an embossing folder and run it through your Big Shot like you normally would.  Then you take two pieces of your cards stock and sandwich the waxed paper between it.  Then you will iron the card stock and the wax from the waxed paper will transfer over.  You will also have 2 pieces of waxed card stock to work with!

Next you sponge on the color.  It will transfer to the card stock and resist the waxed part.  Wipe off piece with a paper towel to get any excess ink off the waxed part.  And you are done!  Isn't that fun?  And easy?  And pretty?

Embossed Marble Technique

Today I found a fun technique called "Embossed Marble."  It's a combination between thumping and embossing.

You do need your Stamp-a-ma-jig to do this one.

You cover the image (mine is from the "Too Kind" set) then I thumped (with a marker) the new Strawberry Slush and then some Chocolate Chip.  I huffed on it and stamped the flower on top of the stem.  I repeated the technique for the smaller flower.

Then you take your Stamp-a-ma-jig and stamp the images on it because you will be using VersaMark on the stamp and lining it up on the paper and then heat embossing it to give it that shiny marble look.  And you repeat for the other flower.

I found this technique at Stamp TV.  You can go there and get the step by step instructions to make this.  It's fun and very easy!

Blooming with Kindness Reverse Masking

Today I'm going to share with you a very fun, easy, and effective technique.  It's the "Reverse Masking" technique.  I found a tutorial for it on Patty Bennett's blog, you can see it here.  I do like video blogs but they tend to take more of my time than ones with words and a few photos.  Especially when they are easy to do.  For more complex things I do prefer a video.  Anyway, the video is good and if you follow it you can make a pretty reversed masked card too. If you don't have time for the video then just keep reading!

To make your mask you just take a punch or a die and punch it out on a piece of cardstock.  Then you take a piece of cardstock that you are going to use for the front of your card.  Here I used Whisper White.  I positioned the mask where I wanted it and I sponged in some Daffodil Delight and then some Calypso Coral.  I removed the mask and this is what I got.  Patty did say that the image on your cardstock will be darker than you expected it to be.  It's easy to be deceived by the mask, so start out light and just remove a corner of the mask to check to see if you want to go darker or not.  Use Post it's to hold your edges in place, that way you won't have to worry about the papers slipping when you take a look see!

Once I was satisfied with my sponging I removed the mask and stamped the flower.  I liked Patty's idea of stamping the flower more towards the center so the middle of the flower looks lighter.  I think it turned out pretty.  Then I stamped the words.

The butterfly was done on a separate piece of cardstock and punched out.  I did use glue to set that in place. I added 3 pearls down the center of the butterfly and then I added some white Baker's Twine.  And the corners were rounded before the piece was set in place on top of a folded half-sheet of Cajun Craze cardstock.  And there you have it.  Easy Peasy!!!

Serene Silhouettes & Petite Pairs

Today I am going to share with you a very fun and easy technique. You remember the waxed paper technique?  It's the one where you took waxed paper and scrunched it up tightly and then flattened it out.  Then you placed it between two pieces of glossy card stock and iron it.  The wax transfers to the card stock.  Next you color it with ink and a sponge or dauber.  This technique is called Textured Wax Resist.  I saw this at Patty Bennet's site.

My card is VERY similar to her card as far as the background and the image goes. My layout is a bit different and I also used another technique on my card.  I used the "Thumping" technique on the flowers.  That is where you take you marker and tap it on the rubber.  You hold the marker like a drum stick and let it bounce off the rubber.  It's quick, fun and easy to do.  And it makes a very pretty looking image.  You can use multiple colors of markers for thumping too but start out with the lightest color and do darker as you go.

The words on my card are from the "Petite Pairs" set.  One of the few sets you can still stamp out using the 1-1/4" circle punch.

When you do a card like this, remember that once you stamp your image you can huff on it and stamp one more image off it. It's going to be lighter but it's still pretty and usable!  I'm not a big fan of the "Direct to Rubber" technique.  That is where you color right on the rubber with markers, chalks or watercolor pencils.  Then you huff or mist it and then stamp.  I think it takes a lot more time that I like to invest in it so that is why I do a second image.  Why waste that ink you spent so much time adding?

Have fun with this technique!
