Impressions Abloom, Simply Said, Birthday Card, Gift Card Holder, Stampin' Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog. Today I have a gift card holder card to share with you. I found it on Pinterest but I was unable to get any details on how it was made other than some measurements. You can see the original card here. Please read on to see how I put it together.

The base of the card is half-sheet of Highland Heather. It measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". It was scored on the short side at 2" and 6". Once done this card will measure 4" and not 4-1/4". I took a piece of copier paper and thought I'd see what it would look like if it measured 4-1/4". It had to be scored at1-7/8" and 6-1/8" and the ends would meet in the middle of the card. I didn't like that idea so I just left it like it was.

The next thing I did was to cut the Designer Series Paper (DSP). Mine is from the "Perennial Lavender" 12" x 12" package. The bottom piece was cut at 1=3/4" x 5-1/4" and the top piece was cut at 2-1/4" x 5-1/4". I taped those pieces in place.

The oval was cut next. It's from the "Impressions Abloom" bundle and was cut using Basic White card stock. I stamped the words from the "Simply Said" set using Highland Heather ink. The flowers and leaves are also from that same bundle. The flowers were cut from some Highland Heather card stock. The flower centers were cut from scraps of Basic White card stock and the stem and leaves were cut from Old Olive card stock. I put the pieces in place on the front of the card using glue. I set them aside to set up.

I glued the sides of the bottom area to form a pocket.

The gift card/money holder for the inside was made by taking a 4" x 5-7/8"piece of Basic White card stock and it was scored at 2" x 5-3/8".  The bottom piece was folded upward (valley fold) to form a pocket and the top scored piece was folded backwards (mountain fold). Before gluing the sides shut to form the pocket I took a 1" x 3-1/2" piece of Basic White card stock and I added double sided tape to both sides and set it in place on the inside of the holder. I found that the gift card slipped down too far to be seen so I wanted to prop it up some and the only way to do that is to make that pocket not so deep. But if I had shortened the pocket by cutting the piece smaller it wouldn't tuck into the larger pocket and create a fun effect. So adding a piece to the inside seemed to be the best way to go.

Once the pocket was set up I glued it to the inside of the card. The small scored area is glued just above the score line on the inside cover of the card. Once the glue sets up, gently bend the holder and slip it into the large pocket.

Now for the front. I taped the oval in place making sure I didn't get any tape on the area that would touch the bottom DSP. The card won't open if you do that. I added tape to the DSP on the top and then to the upper part of the oval and set it in place.

A few retired enamel dots were added and the card was done.

Just add your gift card or money and it's ready to give. This was a fun gift card holder. I like the look of it and I like how it opens. I just don't care for the size.

Thank you SO very much for taking your time to stop in and see today's gift holder card,

A Home for Christmas and Petite Pairs Christmas Money Holder

This could be used as a money holder, a gift card holder or even a candy holder.  Finished size it's 3-1/4" x 4-3/4" and 3/8" thick.

I even wrote down the instructions for you too!!! You will need a piece of decorative paper or cardstock  cut to 5-1/2" wide x 9-1/8" long.

Score on the long side at 3-1/4", 3-5/8", 6-7/8" and 7-1/4".  Turn and score the short end at 3/8" and 5-1/8".  Or you can just score the first side and turn the paper and score the other side at 3/8" too.  Either way it works out fine.

Looking at the last photo you will see where you need to cut away some of the 3/8" pieces.  This will form the front flap.  On the 3/8" side, clip the score lines where they meet the long score lines.  You will only be making a 3/8" clip.  That little tab also needs a little trim too.  I cut little tiny triangles off them so when the box closes it won't be too bulky inside.  Click on the bottom photo to see a closer view of what I'm talking about.

Now fold all of your score lines.  Glue those little flaps to the inside of the holder.  Then you will be gluing the outside (longer pieces) to the other longer pieces.  You can understand what I mean if you fold the holder together first without gluing.  You can see how it goes together and where you need to glue.  I glued the front side pieces to the back side pieces.  If you glue the back side pieces to the front you will have raw edges in the front of the holder.  Like I said, fold it all together so you can see how it looks before you glue!

In the last photo, the bottom part of the image is the flap part of the card.  I cut away the sides on that section.  Then I snipped and trimmed.

Once the sides are glued, I used my bone folder to press the glue into the paper for a better bond.

Now you are ready to decorate the front.  I used a 2-3/4" circle of Mossy Meadow with a 2-3/8" piece of decorative paper on top.  It's the reverse side of this green decorative paper.  Next I fussy cut the deer out and set it in place using Dimensional pieces.
I stamped the words using the "Petite Pairs" set and Real Red ink on Very Vanilla cardstock.  I punched out a 1-3/4" Mossy Meadow scallop and layered the two.  I glued the reindeer piece onto the top half of the top flap and I glued the scalloped piece to the bottom half.  I only glued the bottom half of the scalloped piece.  The top half is where the rest of the flap goes to keep the holder closed.  And that's all there is to it.

Have fun with these!

Thank you SO much for visiting today,

The Book of Money

I found how to make this Book of Money while on Pinterest.  I thought it was a cute idea and I just happened to need two money holders.  I had the supplies here to make them so it saved me some money and time.  Well, maybe not so much the time but I didn't have to go out in the cold to go shopping for them!  Plus these are WAY cuter than the ones in the store are!  And these were made with love and other supplies!!! LOL I found the idea here.  I clicked on the photo and it took me to the Martha Stewart page where the directions are and that page is located here.

I didn't follow the instructions to the tee.  Here is what I did.

I did a little bit different take on the money book.  I took a piece of the cardboard type stuff that is on the back of the packs of 12" x 12" decorative paper.  I save every one I get.  Ok, come on.  I know I'm not the only one who saves these!!  I may be one of the few who is using them though!!! LOL  Yup, I actually use them.  These I don't hoard!  I cut mine 6-1/2" x 3".  Score in the center at 3-1/4".
I found some pretty decorative paper that I wanted to use on my  overs.  My paper with the Santa on it came from a Recollections pack I got at Michael's.  I cut them 3-1/4" x 3" and glued them in place.  Use a glue stick or mono liquid glue.  Tape doesn't look so nice here.  Take your bone folder and run it across the surface to get the glue to be flat between the layers.

While the glue is drying cut a piece of card stock to coordinate with the decorative paper.  I cut mine 1" x 3-1/4" and I scored it in the center.  Glue that in place on the spine.  I folded mine in half and used a clip to hold it shut while the glue dried.

Next open up the money holder and set a dollar bill inside.  Mark above and below it on the center seam so you will know where you need to punch the holes.  Take a small hole paper punch and punch the holes. Take some Baker's Twine and thread it through the holes and tie it on the outside.  You can use ribbon or elastic  if you wish.  Use whatever you can find!!  Fold the money in half and slip it under the center thread.  Fold shut and embellish the front as you wish!  That's all there is to this.  Or you can do it the way Martha says!! LOL
