Hey Chick, Friendship Card, 2021 Stampin' Up! Spring Catalog

I'm questioning my purchase of the "Chick Dies". I still had my "Hey Chick" stamp set from a couple of years ago and I hardly used it. So when I saw the dies I thought it would be fun to add that to the set and make some cute cards.  Well, I found it difficult to come up with a card back when it was just the set and now add the dies to the mix and I'm still finding it difficult.  Maybe if I find some time where I can dedicate more time to playing with it.  I had limited time today and here is what I came up with.

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock.  I used a blending brush and scrubbed in some Seaside Spray ink.  I believe the Seaside Spray will be retiring soon.  It was one of my favorite in-colors.

Next I die cut the corn stalks and the parts that hold the corn cobs, there were four of them. I die cut two corn stalks and just four of the corn cob holder parts using Old Olive card stock.  I also cut four ears of corn using Daffodil Delight card stock. I had used scrap card stock when die cutting these pieces.  I glued the corn cob to the holder piece and set it aside to set up.

I took some white glue and put some on a piece of waxed paper. I folded the paper in half and spread it thin with my bone folder. I opened up the waxed paper and set my corn stalk and pressed it into the glue. I set it in place on the area where I scrubbed in the Seaside Spray color. I repeated this for the other corn stalk.  Then I added the corns to the stalks.

The fence was die cut using some silver foil card stock. I happened to have had a scrap piece in my package and it had a double stick piece on it already. Yay, no messy glue to deal with when adding this piece.  Though removing all those little dots in the fence was not fun because they stuck to the sticky backing. I had to carefully remove them before I could set the fence in place.  I think the fence is adorable and using the foil paper makes it look even cuter! I set the fence in place over the corn stalks. I did use my heat tool to warm up the fence to make sure it stuck. It was starting to come loose so heating up the piece makes the sticky part more stickier and it's really sticking now!

Next I stamped the words from the "Hey Chick" set using black Memento ink.

I stamped the chick and die cut it using the die in the new "Chick" dies. I colored it in using the Blends pens. I used light Daffodil Delight then added some highlights with the dark Daffodil Delight pen. The feet and beak were colored in using the dark Pumpkin Pie pen. The tail feathers were colored using both the light and dark Real Red pens. And the hair was done using both the light and dark Bermuda Bay pens.

I set the chicken in place over the corn stalk ends and the card was done. It was a quick card to make but I am not thrilled with it. I may cut the edges so it's smaller and add it to a Bermuda Bay or Seaside Spray card base. It's just too plain looking. It needs a little something and I think that might just be what will make the image pop more.

Thank you SO much for taking your time to stop by and have a look at today's card,
