Darling Donkeys, Oh So Ombre, Birthday Card, 2021 Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration

I received part of my Stampin' Up! order so I thought I would play with some free stuff!  Seeing this cute donkey back in December helped me decide on getting this set. I just thought the three donkeys in the set were adorable. I didn't feel much like being original with my set yet so I found this fun and cute card to make. You can see the original card here.  If you click the photo it will take you to a how to video.

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Bermuda Bay card stock. This card opens on the bottom and the fold is on the top.

I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White for the image and a 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" piece of the Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the "Oh So Ombre" 6" x 6" paper stack.  I was following the instructions but if I were to make another one I would cut the DSP 4" x 5-1/4". The DSP was taped to the front of the card, make sure you don't add tape in the middle so you can use your circles for a future project or just set them in a container never to look at them again like I do!  LOL  You need to use your largest "Stitched Circle" die and center it as best as you can, just eye it.  Then die cut it.

The instructions have you take your Whisper White piece and set it on the inside of the card where it will go when done and with a pencil, lightly mark at the top, bottom and side to side for reference. You don't want to stamp outside that circle.

The donkey from the "Darling Donkey" set was then stamped using black Memento ink. The donkey was then colored in using Blends pens. The light Flirty Flamingo was used for the inside of the ear. The light Petal Pink was used for the muzzle.  I colored in my donkey using the light Crumb Cake pen and then added some highlights with the dark pen. Then I colored over those dark marks with the light pen and they just blend in all by themselves.

Stampin' Up came out with some new blending brushes. The ones I've been using for a long time now have been some makeup brushes I had gotten on Amazon for around $10 for a package of 10 in a variety of sizes.  I love how they blend the ink so well, so soft and smoothly. I used Granny Apple Green on the bottom and Bermuda Bay on the top.   I did end up coloring over the donkey a bit too, it did get on the donkey but it doesn't show much, not enough to matter.

Once the coloring was done, I had taped the Whisper White piece to the inside of the card. And as I was typing this post up, I stopped and removed the donkey image and taped it to the inside of the front of the card. I had to add a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of copier paper to the back of the stamped image so it wouldn't stick to the inside of the card and tape the whole card shut (sounds like something I would do though!  LOL).  Then I added a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White to the inside of the card for writing on. I just didn't think there was enough room to write on the inside with the donkey in the middle.  So now I'm much happier with the card and I have a whole quarter sheet of card stock to write on.

The words are from the set and were stamped on a piece of scrap Whisper White using black Memento ink. I punched them out using the "Classic Label" punch. I moved the It's way over to the left and then punched out the piece. I had thought I might add a bow or rhinestones after the word birthday but I decided to attach the piece to a post it note and put it back in the punch and punch the other end so it was short. I like the look of this much better.

This card is cute but still a bit plain. I think the circle could use a white ring around it.  It needs something. But this is how it's going to look for today! This is a very quick and easy card to make!

Thank you SO very much for taking the time to stop by and have a look today,
Wanda
