Butterfly Brilliance, Art Gallery, Forever Fern, Thinking of You Card

What caught my eye about today's cards was the dotted holes in it. You can see the original card here. Since there is sponging involved it would be nearly impossible to copy it exactly.  Here is how I made today's card.

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock.  This card opens on the right and the fold is on the left.

I cut a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Basic White for the top layer.  I set this aside for now.

Then I die cut the butterflies from the "Butterfly Brilliance" set. There's individual butterflies that are open and there's a full sheet of butterflies to cut out all at once time. So now I have extra white butterflies to use on something later (maybe!).  The butterflies were sponged using Pale Papaya, Fresh Freesia and Soft Sea Foam inks. Then they were glued to the corresponding solid white butterfly.

I did not have the same fern dies so I took the die from the "Forever Fern" bundle and I die cut two sets of leaves using Soft Sea Foam card stock.

I set the leaves on the card and then the butterflies to see where I was going to be making the dotted holes. The "Butterfly Brilliance" bundle has the dotted dies. I have to be honest here, sometimes there's stuff in the sets that I have no idea what to so with. This dotted die was one of them.  Once I saw this card I knew I had to give it a try.  I loved the look of those dots.  Stampin' Up! should come up with a large die that makes a full set of dots on one sheet with an opening in the middle to add stuff like this layout is.  How fun would that be? I taped this piece to the front of the card.

After I die cut the dots, I glued the ferns in place.  Then I took some gold cord and wrapped it around my fingers and set it in place on top of the ferns. I did set the butterflies on top to see where the cord should go.  I set the corn in place with the larger glue dots.

Next the butterflies were set in place using Dimensionals.

The words are from the "Art Gallery" set and were stamped using Soft Suede ink. There's a die cut in that bundle and I used it to cut out the words. The words were set in place using a Dimensional on each end and some snail tape in the middle.

I had some amber colored rhinestones so I added them to the bodies of the butterflies and the card was done.

After reading this, it sounded quicker to make than it did.  There was a lot of die cutting here and figuring out where the die cutting was going to be (on the dotted piece). I had die cut those dotted pieces two times on the bottom and two times on the top part. The only thing I didn't like about die cutting them was all the little dots that clung to the plate piece. They were full of static and didn't want to leave the plastic plate.

Even though my card is different, I REALLY like how it turned out. I just love how those dots just made the card more interesting.

Thank you SO very much for taking your time to stop by and see today's card,
Wanda
