Butterflies Thinlit Die Mother's Day Card

Have you ever noticed that there is always one pattern in the packages of paper that you really don't care much for?  It happens to me all of the time.  I think maybe once I had liked all of the designs in a package but it never happened again.  Well, this Lullaby decorative paper pack has this pattern that I did not care for.  Even the backside of it was not to my liking.  But today I challenged myself to make a card using it and this is what I came up with.  I now actually like that design.  It's not so wild looking in a smaller piece as it was on the full sheet.

I used the Butterflies Thinlits die.  I don't bother with the dryer sheets.  I just put one piece of waxed paper (waxy side down on the cutting platform, the card stock, another piece of waxed paper (waxy side up) and then the die.  The image cuts out perfectly without any major problems.  Some little pieces may still be in the butterfly but a tap of the finger and they fly right out of there.  No more piercing tool, or pulling on the pieces.  Not one of my butterflies have come out needing any rescuing!!! I LOVE that waxed paper technique for using these detailed dies.

Ok, so I got this perfect butterfly and I set it in place using Dimensionals. I added some pearls down the center of it to dress it up just a little bit.  Oh, and I used Crisp Cantaloupe card stock to make the butterfly.

The words are from the retired All Holidays set and they are stamped using Baked Brown Sugar ink.

The base of the card is Baked Brown Sugar, then a layer of Crisp Cantaloupe, then a layer of Whisper White.  The decorative paper was trimmed to fit.  A strip of Baked Brown Sugar was added to hide the line where the two colors meet.  Plus I needed something bold there to help the butterfly stand out more.

I had a silk rose from something from last year (that's retired) and I added it to the top left corner.  I do like how this card turned out and I now like that decorative paper!!!  Sometimes you just have to challenge yourself!!

This card would also make a great Birthday, Thinking of you, Sympathy, and Get Well cards.  Oh, that reminds me, I need a get well card.  I guess I'll be working on that one tomorrow!!!

Thank you SO much for visiting today,
Wanda
