Sweet Songbirds, Hues of Happiness, Birthday Card, 2022-2023 Stampin' Up! Catalog

I found another fun card that used the busy flower Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the "Hues of Happiness" 12" x 12" package. I love it when busy designs can be used. I often to just bypass them because I can't find a way to use them that tones them down.  Once in a while I run across a card that takes care of that business!

The base of the card is a folded half-sheet of Basic White card stock. This card opens on the bottom and the fold is on the top. The sheet of cards stock was cut on the 8-1/2" side so after it was cut it measured 4-1/4" x 11".

I cut the DSP from the "Hues of Happiness" package at 4" x 5-1/4". I taped it to the front of the card base.

Next I took a 3-1/4" x 3-3/4" piece of Basic White card stock. On each side I measured 3" down and made a light pencil mark. For the tip I measured 1-1/4" over from the right side and made a mark. I cut from the left mark to the bottom mark and from the right mark to the bottom mark.

Then I stamped the branch using Soft Suede ink. The leaves were originally stamped with Parakeet Party ink but I thought it was too bright so I stamped over it using Old Olive ink. The flowers were stamped using Fresh Freesia ink. The musical notes were added using black Memento ink.

The bird and the wing from the "Sweet Songbirds" set was stamped using Fresh Freesia ink. I punched them out with the matching punch. I also punched out a Daffodil Delight beak. I glued the beak and wing in place. I added Dimensionals behind the bird but not on the tail. I did add one to the tail, NOT a good idea!!!  I set the bird above the branch so I could see where the feet needed to be stamped.

The feet were stamped using black Memento ink and then the bird was set in place. Dimensionals were added to the back of the Basic White cut piece and it was set in place on the front of the card. The top and two sides were lined up equally (eyed equally, not measured) and the piece was set in place.

The words were stamped using black Memento ink on a scrap piece of Fresh Freesia card stock. I cut the piece 3/8" x 1-1/8". Dimensionals were added to the back and it was set in place on the upper right side of the card.

The words "It's your special day" was stamped on the inside using black Memento ink. And the card was done. I didn't have the cute brass butterflies but I don't think the card needed them. It looks great the way it is.

Thank you SO much for taking your time to stop by and see today's birthday card,
Wanda

  2. Hi Wendy, I just bought this set and I absolutely love your design. I also have trouble knowing what to place on top of "busy" DSP. This fits the bill! Thank you for sharing.
