Butterfly Gala, Here's a Card, Positive Thoughts, Birthday Card, 2020-2021 Stampin' Up! Catalog

I was reading my emails today and saw a card in it that I thought would be fun to make but I'm not a big fan of square cards or note cards. I try to make them into a regular size card.  Here's the original card and the following is what I did to change it to a regular size card. I like both.

The base of my card is a folded half-sheet of Whisper White card stock.

A 5-1/4" x 1-3/4" piece of the Designer Series Paper from the "Subtles" 6" x 6" stack was cut and taped to the front of the card. I was going to cut it at 5" and add a layer of Blushing Bride card stock behind it but I thought I would just leave it as it is, just the polka dot piece of Blushing Bride DSP.

Then the words from the "Here's a Card" were stamped using Versa Mark and embossed with gold embossing powder. It was die cut using the second largest circle from the "Layering Circles" Framelits. I moved the circle so the words were cut towards the bottom.

I didn't have the same leaf but I did have one that I thought would work, it's from the "Positive Thoughts" set and was stamped using Mint Macaron ink that was stamped off once.

The butterflies are from the "Butterfly Gala" stamp set. They were stamped with Versa Mark on Vellum and embossed in gold like the words were. I colored them on the back with my dark Flirty Flamingo Blends pen. I had used the Blushing Bride light and dark pen but they were too light. I even used the Flirty Flamingo light pen but it was too light too.  I thought the dark Flirty Flamingo Blends pen would be too dark but it worked out perfectly. It was just dark enough to make the color pop and it blended in well with the DSP.

The layer behind the Whisper White circle is a scalloped circle of Gold Foil card stock. I taped the circle to the scallop. Then I added a small Dimensional to each butterfly and set them in place on the circle.

Dimensionals were added to the back of the circle and the circle was set in place on top of the card.

I didn't have the gold gems for the butterflies but I did have some retired gold pearls, so I used them.  You get the idea and demonstrators know what to use to make the card with current products.  I have been just using what I have because I have so much retired stuff that I'm hanging on to but now I'm just going to substitute what I have until I run out of what I have. Then I can justify buying new and current stuff.

And the card was finished. I like how it turned out. Doesn't look a lot like the original card except for the circle part.  I am not sure what drew me to the card but there was something about it that I liked and I was glad I could take what I liked from the card to create a card with the size I like to work with.  I thought this card was fun to make too.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to visit today,
Wanda

Too funny. I too saw and loved those cards but also don't like to do square. Love your take on them. TFS

I prefer making A2 size cards instead of squares ones too. Squares ones cost more to send if in a square envelope and they look a little funny in an envelope for an A2 card. Anyway, I like your card better.
